Roy Keane has credited the way Rory McIlroy and Team Europe dealt with Ryder Cup abuse from the hostile US crowd.
McIlroy was a guest on the latest Stick To Football podcast where he talked about the Ryder Cup and winning The Masters.
Roy Keane has credited Rory McIlroy for his handling of the Ryder Cup abuse aimed at him and Team Europe in New York back in September.
McIlroy was a guest on the latest episode of the Stick To Football podcast alongside Ian Wright, Gary Neville, Jill Scott, Jamie Carragher and Keane.
McIlroy returns at the Dubai Invitational to kickstart his 2026 season in a couple weeks, but first sat down with the Stick To Football team to talk about his career, winning The Masters and the Ryder Cup.

During the conversation, McIlroy began talking about the abuse he and his teammates receive during the 45th Ryder Cup in New York.
The Northern Irishman and several of his teammates were on the receiving end of some nasty abuse at Bethpage Black, and has since shed some light on the situation with the crowd.
Fellow Irishman Keane stepped in to defend the five-time major winner, stating that it was a ‘disgrace’ what he and his teammates had to put up with whilst representing Europe at the Ryder Cup.
Keane’s support of McIlroy was echoed by Neville, Wright, Carragher and Scott, who were all in agreement that the actions of the US crowd was simply disgraceful.

Rory McIlroy may be the second most googled athlete in 2025 and one of the most recognisable celebrities on the planet, but he remains grounded as proven in the latest Stick To Football episode.
During the episode, the career Grand Slam winner gifted Roy Keane with a special present. The gift was a signed flag from the 2025 Masters with a personal message from McIlroy to the former Manchester United captain.
Keane has been critical of golf in the past, but was bantering back and forth with McIlroy during the episode after their exchange last time the Northern Irishman was a guest on the podcast.

McIlroy was a guest on the Stick To Football podcast back in 2024, where he shared a story on Keane refusing to sign an autograph for him when he was a kid.
The pair laughed and joked about the situation with Keane insisting he would never have done it, with their laughter continuing in McIlroy’s second appearance in the latest episode too.
It’s clear that McIlroy is a huge admirer of Keane’s, with the retired footballer also evidently a huge fan of McIlroy’s.
Both Keane and McIlroy are icons of Irish sport in their own regard, that’s for sure.
