Rory McIlroy Is Officially The Second Most Googled Athlete Globally In 2025

Rory McIlroy is officially the second most googled athlete in the world in 2025.

That’s according to Google’s top trending global searches for athletes, where McIlroy trails only American boxer Terence Crawford.

Rory McIlroy Second On Google Most Searched Athletes List 2025

Career Grand Slam winner Rory McIlroy had a year to remember in 2025. The Northern Irishman not only won the Masters for the very first time, but also won a seventh Race to Dubai title and played a major part in Europe’s Ryder Cup success in New York.

McIlroy is prioritising family time this Christmas as he enjoys a well-earned break before returning to the fairways in the New Year in a bid to add more major titles to his ever-growing trophy cabinet.

The 36-year-old is undoubtedly one of the most popular golfers in the world, if not the single most popular. Alongside perhaps Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau, McIlroy remains the face of professional golf all around the world.

McIlroy’s popularity seems to have translated worldwide too, with Google revealing the five-time major champion is officially the second most searched athlete in 2025.

The Northern Irishman is the only golfer inside the top five most searched athletes globally, proving that he remains the face of golf as well as being one of the most recognisable athletes on the planet.

McIlroy is second only to boxing icon Terence Crawford, who defeated Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez back in September which has seemingly won him top spot in Google’s top trending athletes list in 2025.

McIlroy Second Only To Terence Crawford As Most Googled Athlete Worldwide

American boxer Terence Crawford tops the list as Google’s most searched athlete in 2025, with career Grand Slam winner Rory McIlroy a close second on this illustrious list.

Despite being in the later stages of his career, McIlroy is evidently a huge name globally, not just in the world of golf.

The 36-year-old will have accumulated a huge search following his monumental Masters victory back in April, were the Northern Irishman won his fifth major title and first Green Jacket, becoming just the sixth golfer in history to complete the career Grand Slam in the process.

This will have in turn produced a huge volume of search of McIlroy’s name, further adding to his pedigree as a global star and arguably the biggest name the sport of golf has seen since Tiger Woods.

McIlroy revealed his future goals recently with ambitions of winning more majors, which could in turn translate into even more searches if he is able to capture even more silverware in 2026 and beyond.

Although McIlroy trails Crawford on the list, he has beaten world-renowned athletes such as Shedeur Sanders, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Hurts to name the rest of the top five.
