Career Grand Slam winner Rory McIlroy heads to the Dubai Invitational for what will be his first tournament of the new 2026 season.
The Northern Irishman will tee it up at Dubai Creek Resort from 15-18 January as he aims to kickstart the new season with a win in the UAE.
With 2025 now coming to a close, all eyes are on the New Year and the golf season getting underway once again.
Both the DP World Tour and PGA Tour kickstart their schedule in January, with 10 months of world-class golf action following. This of course includes the four major championships as well as season-long Race to Dubai and FedEx Cup events.
The 2026 DP World Tour season officially gets underway on January 22 for the Dubai Desert Classic. However, the Dubai Invitational takes place a week prior, with a limited 60-player field participating in this invite-only event.
Five-time major champion Rory McIlroy is one of the players invited to tee it up at the 2026 Dubai Invitational from 15-18 January at Dubai Creek Resort.
This will be the first time golf fans catch a glimpse of the Northern Irishman in the New Year, as he goes in search of more wins, more majors and more success overall on both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.
Rory McIlroy to return for second edition of Dubai Invitational 💪
— DP World Tour (@DPWorldTour) October 21, 2025
The 2026 Dubai Invitational is just the second edition of the event, with Ryder Cup teammate and friend Tommy Fleetwood winning the inaugural tournament back in 2024.
McIlroy came second at the first Dubai Invitational almost two years ago, and will kick-off his 2026 campaign with successive events in the UAE.
The 36-year-old is excited to get going in the New Year at the Dubai Invitational and is hoping to go one better this time and lift the trophy come Sunday:
“I’m excited to be starting my year in Dubai. The UAE is a place where I’ve enjoyed a lot of great weeks, and I’m sure this will be no different.
“Dubai Creek Resort was a fantastic host venue two years ago, and Abdulla and his team put on an incredible event. I came very close to winning that week, so I’m hoping 2026 will be another really good year for me – and to start strong in the Middle East would be the perfect way to get it under way.”

Not only will Rory McIlroy’s first tournament of 2026 take place in Dubai, but his second appearance also will the following week.
McIlroy, who was the second most googled athlete globally in 2025, begins his campaign at the Dubai Invitational from 15-18 January, before heading to Emirates Golf Club the following week for the Dubai Desert Classic.
The world number two is beginning the New Year with back-to-back weeks in the UAE. The Dubai Invitational is the first Rolex Series event of the campaign and the Dubai Desert Classic is of course a tournament that McIlroy has won four times before.
Abdulla Al Naboodah, the tournament host of the 2026 Dubai Invitational, is thrilled to have the career Grand Slam winner back in the field for his event in the New Year:
With a one shot lead going down the last, Rory puts it into the water 😬
He went on to bogey, while Fleetwood birdied to snatch the Dubai Invitational out of his hands.

“It is an honour to welcome career grand slam winner Rory McIlroy back to the Dubai Creek Resort for the 2026 Dubai Invitational.
“His participation is a significant addition to our world-class field, and we look forward to delivering another exceptional week of competition and hospitality for players, partners, and spectators.”
Fellow Irishman Shane Lowry is also confirmed for the Dubai Desert Classic, but won’t be teeing it up at the Dubai Invitational.
McIlroy’s first two tournaments of the new season in Dubai could quickly get his season up and running as he goes in search of a sixth major title, eighth Race to Dubai victory and fourth FedEx Cup.
