Rory McIlroy is back for his first golfing appearance of the year as he tees it up for TGL Season 2.

The career Grand Slam winner will represent Boston Common Golf alongside Keegan Bradley and Michael Thorbjornsen against Los Angeles Golf Club.

Rory McIlroy Back In Action At TGL Season 2

Career Grand Slam winner Rory McIlroy is back in action for the first time this year as he returns for Season 2 of TGL.

TGL was launched last year and is a tech-infused, team-based golf league, co-founded by McIlroy and Tiger Woods.

It combines top PGA Tour players in teams with advanced technology for a two-hour weekly competition against opposing teams.

McIlroy, who was the second most googled athlete in 2025, will kickstart his TGL Season 2 campaign alongside teammates Keegan Bradley and Michael Thorbjornsen.

This will be the first time McIlroy and Bradley will have been in each other’s company for an extended period of time since the 2025 Ryder Cup back in September.

Bradley of course captained Team USA at Bethpage Black, with McIlroy one of the leading players and top performers for Team Europe in New York.

Roy Keane credited McIlroy for the way he handled the abuse at the Ryder Cup, which Bradley himself admitted was a little too far at times.

Now they are back alongside each other and in the same team, McIlroy, Bradley and Thorbjornsen will aim to defeat the Los Angeles Golf Club team of Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala.

TGL Season 2 will run right though to the end of March, with McIlroy and his fellow professionals also beginning their campaigns on both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour in January.

What Is Rory McIlroy’s TGL Team?

Rory McIlroy is the captain of his TGL team, with Keegan Bradley and Michael Thorbjornsen his two teammates at Boston Common Golf.

Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama also represent Boston Common Golf as part of McIlroy’s team, but won’t tee it up for the Season 2 opener against Los Angeles Golf Club on Friday, January 2.

Last year, Boston Common Golf didn’t register a single win, coming last of all six TGL teams in action. In their five matches in 2025, Boston Common Golf lost them all and managed just one point thanks to an overtime loss.

This year, McIlroy and co will be hoping for a far better result.

Atlanta Drive Golf Club were crowned the inaugural champions last year. Their team consisted of Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas, Billy Horschel and Lucas Glover.

McIlroy may have been snubbed from the New Year’s Honours list, but has the chance to get his 2026 up and running from a golfing perspective with victory in Gameweek 1 for Boston Common Golf over LAGC.

TGL Format Explained

Although it might sound complicated given it is essentially indoor golf with advanced technology inside a stadium, the TGL format is actually fairly straight-forward to understand.

Each weekly event is held at the SoFi Center in Florida, with thousands of fans in attendance in the stands to watch some of the world’s best golfers in action in this tech-infused, team-based golf league.

This season there are six TGL teams who will play once against each of the other teams (five total matches). A team earns two points for a win in regulation or overtime, one for an overtime loss, and none for a regulation loss.

Come the end of the regular season, the top four teams in the single-table standings advance to the elimination matches. The two semi-final winners then compete in the championship round, which is a first to two format.

The champions are then crowned at the conclusion of the championship round. This year, McIlroy and co will be hoping it’s them.
