Brandel Chamblee Disagrees With Rory McIlroy’s Stance On Brooks Koepka’s Potential PGA Tour Return

Brandel Chamblee “couldn’t disagree more” with Rory McIlroy’s stance on Brooks Koepka and some LIV Golf players potentially returning to the PGA Tour.

The Golf Channel analyst would welcome LIV players back to the PGA Tour, but feels they all require ‘further consequence’.

Brandel Chamblee Disagrees With Rory McIlroy LIV Golf Stance

Whilst appearing on The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast on New Year’s Day, Rory McIlroy welcomed LIV players back to the PGA Tour and feels they have already paid the consequences for their switch in allegiances.

McIlroy revealed that he wants the best players locking horns with each other on a more frequent basis, rather than just in the major championships.

Currently, the only time LIV Golf players compete in any type of PGA Tour event is in the four majors and if selected for the Ryder Cup. Some LIV players still play on the DP World Tour in select events, but none play on the PGA Tour alongside LIV outside of the majors.

Career Grand Slam winner McIlroy feels this should change for the good of the sport, if golf wants to continue to grow and remain relevant.

The Northern Irishman feels the likes of Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka and co should be able to return to the PGA Tour if they wish without consequence.

McIlroy’s stance has been supported by millions of golf fans, but several totally disagree with the five-time major champion. This includes Brandel Chamblee, who “couldn’t disagree more with what Rory said’ over LIV players returning to the PGA Tour without consequence.

Chamblee feels strongly that allowing players such as Koepka to return to the PGA Tour without consequence would ‘undermine the meritocratic foundations’ that make the PGA Tour the most legitimate golf tour in the world.

Chamblee “Couldn’t Disagree More With What Rory Said”

Speaking on The Favourite Chamblee podcast, Brandel Chamblee has taken issue with Rory McIlroy’s stance on Brooks Koepka and fellow LIV Golf players returning to the PGA Tour without any further consequence.

McIlroy has changed clubs for the first time since 2017, and has also changed his stance on LIV players returning. At first, the career Grand Slam winner was against players competing on the PGA Tour, but has now made a complete U-turn over concerns for the relevance of the sport.

Chamblee hasn’t done the same as McIlroy and changed his mind entirely, instead doubling down on his opinion that LIV golfers must pay the consequences of their original decision before returning to the PGA Tour:

“I couldn’t disagree more with what Rory said,” revealed Chamblee.

“I couldn’t disagree more with those who think that Brooks [Koepka] should be able to come back without some consequence.

“It’s great if he does want to come back. I think that’s good. It’s the best legitimate tour in the world. But he was a key legitimiser of LIV. He wasn’t just an innocent bystander.

“To allow Brooks to come back with no consequence would undermine the meritocratic foundations that are the one thing that makes the PGA Tour legitimate.

“It’s not about retribution. It’s about setting a precedent,” concluded the Golf Channel analyst.

McIlroy returns in Dubai on January 15 for the Dubai Invitational on the DP World Tour, before getting his PGA Tour campaign up and running at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am from February 12-15.
