Shane Lowry Shares Hilarious Social Media Post With Ryder Cup Teammate Tyrrell Hatton

Shane Lowry has taken to social media, sharing a picture of him and Tyrrell Hatton in the gym with a hilarious caption.

Lowry and Hatton are both currently in action at the 2026 Dubai Desert Classic, but hit the gym together before the second round on Friday.

Shane Lowry Shares Gym Social Media Post With Hilarious Caption

After a steady start for Shane Lowry at the 2026 Dubai Desert Classic, the Irish golfer prepared for his second round at Emirates Golf Club with a pre-round gym session.

Lowry hit the gym with Ryder Cup teammate Tyrrell Hatton, who also features in Dubai this week for the second DP World Tour event of the season and last of the international swing in the UAE.

The 38-year-old got off to a reasonably strong start in his opening round on Thursday, carding a -2 par round of 70 to put him in a tie for 12th place after the opening 18-holes.

This was the best of the full Irish contingent, with Tom McKibbin one shot worse off, Padraig Harrington two behind and Rory McIlroy three shots behind Lowry after Round 1 of the Dubai Desert Classic.

Lowry’s Dubai Desert Classic preparation evidently consists of a lot of practice at the range and out on the course, but also consists of some gym work and weights sessions without a golf club in sight.

Prior to his second round in Dubai, Lowry hit the gym with Hatton, sharing a picture on social media of the pair with two kettlebells on the floor in front of them. Both men clearly put the work in before going out for Round 2, but it was Lowry’s caption that caught people’s attention.

The Offaly man went down the humour route when captioning his post with Hatton, stating they would both rather be at Ally Pally enjoying the darts rather than in the sweltering hot Dubai playing golf:

“We’d both rather be back at the darts,” Lowry captioned his social media post with a crying-laughing emoji.

Lowry was spotted at the World Darts Championship over the Christmas period enjoying his time away from the golf course, with Hatton also in attendance.

Lowry In Contention At Dubai Desert Classic

Although Shane Lowry might have jokingly said he’d rather be in London watching the World Darts Championship at the Alexandra Palace, this evidently isn’t the case.

The Mullingar-born golfer had a strong start at the Dubai Invitational last week, and is firmly in the mix after the opening round of action at the Dubai Desert Classic too.

Lowry posted an opening round of -2 par, meaning he was five shots off the pace heading into the second round.

With his second round of 18-holes now underway, Lowry will be hoping for a round in the 60s on Friday, meaning he will be sitting pretty and within touching distance of the leaders going into the weekend.

After landing two major sponsorship deals before this year’s campaign, Lowry is desperate to repay the faith and have one of his best years on both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour in 2026.

His year got off to a strong start last week with a tied third place finish at the Dubai Invitational, with the 2019 Open Champion hoping to improve again this week as he chases his second win in the UAE.

LIV Golf star Patrick Reed shot a stellar -6 par round of 66 early on Friday, and now has the clubhouse lead after 36-holes. If Lowry can get himself to -4 par or better before the end of play of his second round, he has every chance of clinching the Dubai Desert Classic title come Sunday.
