Shane Lowry Returns In First TGL Match Of Season 2 For The Bay Golf Club

Shane Lowry is back for his first golfing appearance of the year as he tees it up for TGL Season 2 on Tuesday night.

The former major champion is representing The Bay Golf Club for a second successive season, with teammates Ludvig Aberg, Wyndham Clark and Min Woo Lee.

Shane Lowry Back In Action For TGL Season 2

Irish golfing juggernaut Shane Lowry is back in action for the first time this year as he returns for Season 2 of TGL.

Lowry played a major part in Season 1 of TGL, the tech-infused, team-based golf league, co-founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

Last year was the debut season of TGL, with Lowry and co returning for a second successive year. The 38-year-old is back in action properly on the DP World Tour as part of the Dubai Invitational field next week, but first will tee it up at TGL on Tuesday night.

The former Open champion will kickstart his TGL Season 2 campaign alongside teammates Wyndham Clark and Ludvig Aberg for their first match.

Popular Australian golfer Min Woo Lee is also on Lowry’s team, but isn’t participating in their first game of the season on Tuesday night against Atlanta Drive Golf Club.

Instead, it will be Lowry, Aberg and Clark taking on Patrick Cantlay, Billy Horschel and Chris Gotterup in what is expected to be a closely-fought affair.

Atlanta GC reached the final of TGL during Season 1 and went on to win it all, beating The Bay GC in the semi-finals by a scoreline of 9-3 in the process.

Lowry and co will be hoping to get their second season up and running with revenge over Atlanta GC and a winning start to the year.

What TGL Team Is Shane Lowry On?

Shane Lowry is one of the biggest names and best players on his TGL team. The Irishman is part of The Bay Golf Club alongside Ludvig Aberg, Min Woo Lee and former US Open champion Wyndham Clark.

Last year, The Bay GC reached the semi-finals of TGL Season 1 before being defeated 9-3 by Billy Horschel’s Atlanta GC.

Getting beaten by the eventual winners is no disgrace by any means, but Lowry and co will certainly be hoping for a stronger showing this campaign.

Lowry was spotted at the World Darts Championship over the Christmas break, but is ready to get his season up and running with his first appearance of the year alongside his The Bay GC teammates.

They will be hoping to get off to a winning start, before a three week break until their next game against Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf.

How Does The TGL Format Work?

TGL is essentially indoor golf with advanced technology inside a stadium.

Each event is held at the SoFi Center in Florida, with thousands of fans in attendance to watch some of the world’s best golfers in action in this tech-infused, team-based golf league.

This season there are six TGL teams who will play once against each of the other teams (five total matches). A team earns two points for a win in regulation or overtime, one for an overtime loss, and none for a regulation loss.

Come the end of the regular season, the top four teams in the standings advance to the elimination matches. The two semi-final winners then compete in the championship round to determine the overall winners.

The champions are then crowned at the conclusion of the championship round.

Shane Lowry is eyeing Masters success later this year, but will first be desperate to start the TGL season strongly. This year, Lowry and co will be hoping The Bay Golf Club go on to achieve TGL success in Season 2.
