Shane Lowry wants to follow in the footsteps of Rory McIlroy and win The Masters at Augusta National in 2026.
The Mullingar man is looking to emulate McIlroy in winning a coveted Green Jacket, and has revealed he would love it to be McIlroy who slips the jacket on his shoulders.
Shane Lowry is looking to emulate the success of Rory McIlroy by winning the Masters in 2026.
The Irish golfer has already tasted success in major championship golf having won The Open back in 2019, but is craving more major triumphs in the next few years.
Lowry was spotted at the World Darts Championship enjoying some time away from the golf course over Christmas, but has his sights firmly set on returning to the fairways and winning more tournaments next year.
The Mullingar man has always shared his dreams of one day winning the Masters, hoping to become the first Irishman in history to win the coveted golf event at Augusta National.

With McIlroy pipping Lowry to the post to achieve that feat, the 38-year-old is now hoping to emulate McIlroy’s success in becoming just the second Irish golfer to win a Green Jacket.
Ever since he was a kid, Lowry has dreamt of one day going into the Butler’s Cabin to receive his Green Jacket and write his name into the golfing history books by clinching the Masters at Augusta.
Although he hasn’t done it yet, Lowry has come close on several occasions. The Offaly man finished in a tie for third at the Masters back in 2022 which is the closest he has come to winning around the hallowed turf of Augusta.
Now, the three-time PGA Tour winner is hoping to emulate the success of good friend and fellow Irishman McIlroy in winning the Masters.

Shane Lowry has revealed his desire to follow in the footsteps of five-time major champion and career Grand Slam winner Rory McIlroy.
Lowry and McIlroy are best friends on the circuit, and even spend time together off the golf course too with their families very close.
The former Open Championship winner is hoping that he can emulate his good friend’s success, and even have McIlroy the one to place the Green Jacket on his shoulders.
As is tradition at the Masters, the winner from the previous year is the one who puts the coveted Green Jacket on the shoulders of the new champion.

Should Lowry win the 2026 Masters, it would indeed be McIlroy who would have the pleasure of presenting the Mullingar man with his Green Jacket.
“I’ve always said to myself I want to be the first Irishman to win the Masters,” Lowry told RTE Sport.
“That was always my goal in my head. Obviously, that can’t be the case now.
“I think the only thing that would be almost as good as that would be Rory [McIlroy] slipping the green jacket on me. I’ve thought about that.
“So honestly, every day I go to work, every morning I wake up and I’m doing something for my golf, I’m thinking about that. That’s the number one goal now for the next four months,” concluded Lowry.
Lowry returns to the fairways in late January, with the Irishman confirmed for the Dubai Desert Classic. After that, all roads lead to the Masters for the Westmeath man, who is hoping for major success in 2026 and beyond.
