Steph Curry tests his golf ability on one of Ireland’s top links courses

Basketball legend Steph Curry is taking some well-deserved time off to play one of Ireland’s top golf courses.

The NBA All-Star headed to Waterville Golf Links on the Ring of Kerry to test his ability on the greens with his dad Dell, brother Seth and NBA star Damion Lee.

The course, which has hosted numerous famous names in the past, such as Tiger Woods and Gareth Bale, took to social media to post about Curry’s visit.

Alongside an image of Curry with staff members, they wrote the caption: “A very warm welcome to NBA legends Steph Curry, Seth Curry, their father Dell Curry, and fellow NBA star Damion Lee to Waterville Golf Links.

“It was an honour to host such an incredible talent from the basketball world – we hope you enjoyed your day on the links.”

Waterville Golf Links is ranked number six in Ireland’s top 100 Golf Courses and one of the top links courses in the world.

World-renowned golf architect Tom Fazio, who has designed courses such as Augusta and Pine Valley, was commissioned to put his stamp on the course.

It costs up to €375 per head to play in the high season, with an extra fee to book a caddy.

Curry was undoubtedly up for the test given his golfing ability. The 37-year-old boasts a hugely impressive +1.3 handicap and is often seen at celebrity golf tournaments.

In the American Century Championship, he hit a hole-in-one and celebrated by sprinting towards the green.

That set him on his way to winning the tournament, which included an eagle on the final hole to get his hands on the trophy.

Ambitions to play competitive golf

Curry hasn’t been shy in admitting his ambitions to play on the PGA Tour Champions when he retires from basketball.

The PGA Tour Champions is a men’s professional senior golf tour aged 50 and over and is a branch of the main PGA Tour.

Speaking to Golf Digest last year, he said: “I don’t know what the path is.

“All I know is, when I’m done with basketball, I’m going to reasonably invest as much into my golf as I can to see how good I can get, and where that puts me 14 years from now, we’ll see.”

He also has his own golf tour, called Underrated, which aims to give teenagers from all communities an equal opportunity to play the game, making it more accessible and diverse.

Curry is signed with the Golden State Warriors through to the 2026/27 season and are currently around 22/1 to be crowned NBA Finals Champions next season with Irish betting sites.
