Tottenham Hotspur could land Troy Parrott transfer for less than £35million asking price

Tottenham Hotspur could land Troy Parrott in the January transfer window – for less than the £35million asking price on a technicality.

The Republic of Ireland striker is talk of the town through his incredible form for club and country with Parrott scoring 20 times in all competitions.

The form the 23-year-old is currently enjoying with AZ Alkmaar and the Irish national side was summed up by his five in two matches for his country which helped take them to the World Cup playoff in March.

But aside from the accolades and the applause from the Irish media as well as down south, Parrott is now also being followed and tracked by clubs who may wish to take a shot at signing him next month.

VFB Stuttgart were linked with Parrott as recently as November but the £35m price tag is believed to be putting the Bundesliga club off from making any sort of realistic bid.

Troy Parrott could rejoin Spurs in cut-price deal

The marksman was also wanted by Leeds United boss Daniel Farke but nothing official ever crossed the table in Alkmaar.

The on-form Parrott has been linked with Spurs in what would be an intriguing homecoming for the player having departed North London in the first place for a much more modest £6.7m last year.

If Tottenham do indeed decide to go after their former fringe man they would have to stump up the cash in what would likely be a frustration given the fact that they had him in their ranks initially and chose to let him go.

However a contract clause could potentially see Thomas Frank land the forward for slightly less than the quoted asking price.

It is believed that Spurs inserted a 20 percent sell-on for Parrott in the initial deal they did with AZ Alkmaar to ensure that they would benefit from their ex-player if he did, indeed, make it big.

And it is possible that there could be an agreement between both sides to waive that number so long as a discount would be added to the overall fee Alkmaar would be looking to receive.

It is unlikely the Eredivisie outfit would be willing to lose too much on their attacker but, again, it would all depend on the numbers involved.

Parrott spoke recently on being brought “back down to earth” following what he described as one of the best weeks of his life with ROI.

He also credited Alkmaar and insisted the club had made him a better player

“I had the best week of my life but have come back to earth,” explained the striker.

“AZ have helped me massively get better. I’ve to trust that the work continues to benefit me.

“I still kept watching the videos from back home over and over again.

“There’s no words to describe what impact the team can have on the country. I didn’t know how big it was going to be.

“We went four years within a space of only winning a game here and there and not making it to tournaments.

“We went through a stage where everyone wrote us off. The fans didn’t have anything meaningful so those two wins have led to that reaction.”
