Shamrock Rovers complete deal for UCD winger Adam Brennan

Shamrock Rovers have completed the signing of Republic of Ireland Under-19 winger, Adam Brennan.

We at Pundit Arena exclusively revealed Shamrock wanted Brennan.

The highly rated 18-year-old makes the move from UCD, and he could be thrust into action immediately if his registration is cleared before Saturday’s President’s Cup clash with Derry City.

Hoops boss Stephen Bradley has been an admirer of the teenager for some time and after watching his progress from afar, he has vowed to work with the player to realise his potential.

He also revealed the player opted for Tallaght over the second tier in England, which highlights his quality and

“We’ve monitored Adam very closely and we really like the type he is,” said Bradley.

“He’s really aggressive in the final third, commits people, wants to beat players, wants to make things happen. We knew Josh Honohan was going to leave (to join Lincoln City) for some time and Adam was one of our targets for that position, so we’re delighted to get him in.

Bradley continued, “He has turned down Championship clubs to come here, which says everything about his commitment to us. We believe he has a really high ceiling and we’re looking forward to seeing him in the team.”

Fearless, two-footed, very exciting

While time is on Brennan’s side and he still needs to develop his game and physique into his twenties, he has proven he can already make an impact in senior football.

Last season, Adam Brennan recorded nine goals and 12 assists across 28 appearances in the League of Ireland First Division.

Bradley confirmed that he would be involved against Derry if the relevant administration tasks have been completed, just seven days ahead of the League of Ireland Premier Division opener, at home to Dundalk.

Last season’s double-winning manager went on to detail what excites him about Brennan and what the Hoops fans have got to look forward to.

“He’s fearless in the final third. He dribbles really strongly with the ball, makes things happen, can go right or left, he’s two-footed. I believe we can make him better, add goals to his game and he’s a very exciting player.

“I’m hoping he’ll be registered in time to play against Derry and get him on the pitch as soon as possible and get a feel for it.

“We hope that he can impact us right now, but we need to remember he’s only 18 and we’ll have to protect him, as we do with all our young players and choose the right times to put him in and take him out.”
