The first ever NFL Dublin game sees the Pittsburgh Steelers host the Minnesota Vikings at Croke Park on Sunday.
In a historic landmark for the island, two teams will go head-to-head in a regular-season contest in the Irish capital.
Both sides enter with 2-1 records but it’s the Vikings who are 2.5-point favourites in the betting following a 48-10 rout of the Cincinnati Bengals last week.
The Steelers scraped over the line against the New England Patriots in a game they most definitely should have lost and concerns are lingering over their ability to be competitive in match-ups like these.
Irish broadcaster Virgin Media will show Steelers vs Vikings on free-to-air TV.
The Vikings get a confident vote to cover the 2.5-point spread and ease past the Steelers in Dublin. We saw just how efficient their offense can be in last week’s demolition of the Bengals with Jordan Mason rushing for 116 yards and two touchdowns while Jefferson tallied 75 yards on five catches.
One area the Steelers have struggled in is run defense and with Mason on their side this is something the Vikings can exploit. Frankly, Minnesota have more talent across the board and it was hard to be inspired by Pittsburgh watching them in New England.
The pair haven’t faced off in the regular-season since late 2021 when the Vikings emerged as victors and we’re backing the same outcome here. Minnesota impressed in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears before coming out flat against the Atlanta Falcons but their response to that defeat spoke volumes.
Whereas the Steelers are arriving here knowing they experienced an incredible stroke of luck against the Patriots and it was evident Aaron Rodgers was getting extremely frustrated with the offense throughout.
Pittsburgh Steelers vs Minnesota Vikings tip 1: Vikings -2.5 @ 10/11
One of the great things about the International Games is the NFL’s best talent being able to showcase their ability on different sides of the planet and there is no better example than elite wideout Justin Jefferson getting the opportunity to put on a show in Dublin.
Widely regarded as the best receiver in the league and one of the greatest of all-time, Jefferson needs no introduction. He has been named to the Pro Bowl and All-Pro team in four of his first five seasons and amassed the most receiving yards thorough a player’s first five seasons in NFL history.
In 2022 at the age of just 23, Jefferson became the youngest player to lead the NFL in receptions and receiving yards while earning Offensive Player of the Year honours. He scored ten touchdowns in 17 regular-season outings last season and has one to his name so far this year.
His former LSU teammate and current Bengals star Ja’Marr Chase predicted that he or Jefferson would be the NFL’s first 2,000-yard receiver.
Jefferson is a quarterback’s best friend and he rates a strong selection to score a touchdown at Croke Park.
Pittsburgh Steelers vs Minnesota Vikings tip 2: Justin Jefferson anytime touchdown scorer @ 6/4
Jaylen Warren is without doubt one of the NFL’s leading running backs and Minnesota rank as the 22nd best team in the NFL in terms of run defense this year, allowing 130 yards per game.
Warren’s longest carries have been for nine, nine and 11 yards in his first three games but the Seattle Seahawks and Patriots are both defending well and sit within the best seven teams in run defense.
This opportunity against the Vikings should make his task a good bit easier and it looks worth chancing Warren to tally a rush of at least 13 yards. He is projected to run for around 57.5 yards and I wouldn’t put you off him eclipsing that mark as well.
Warren was a bright spark for the Steelers last week and he should continue his impressive form in this contest.
Pittsburgh Steelers vs Minnesota Vikings tip 3: Jaylen Warren longest rush over 12.5 yards @ 5/6
Prediction: Vikings 27-19 Steelers @ 200/1
You’re taking a shot in the dark on this one but it might be worth paying to find out at 200/1 for the Vikings to beat the Steelers 27-19.
