Martin O’Neill has been confirmed as Celtic manager until the end of the season, taking up the role for the second time in three months.
The Kilrea-native was the temporary solution after Brendan Rodgers left Parkhead in October and now he has been confirmed as the successor to Wilfried Nancy after the Frenchman was dismissed on Monday.
Celtic has confirmed that Martin O’Neill will be in the role until the end of the 2025/26 campaign, an appointment backed by Chris Sutton, and once again he will be supported by a familiar coaching team.

The official statement from Celtic confirmed that “Martin will be supported by Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham as assistants, as well as Stephen McManus, who will join our existing coaches, Gavin Strachan, Stevie Woods and Greg Wallace, to oversee first-team matters.
Celtic Manager Martin O’Neill said: “I am really pleased, in fact, very honoured to be asked back to manage the team again and I am looking forward to getting back to work again with the players.
“I know we would all have hoped for things to have worked out differently under Wilfried and I personally want to wish him good luck with everything he does in the game. He is a fine man and I am sure he will go on and achieve success again. I have no doubt of that.
He continued, “For me, I’ve been asked to take this great job on again and my focus will be to try and get us back to winning ways if we can. We will need everyone right behind us.
“We still have a lot to look forward to and a lot to try and achieve, and myself, Shaun and the coaching staff and, of course, the players will be giving everything to achieve all the success we can for the club.”
PunditArena detailed earlier that the three-time Scottish title winner would be in a strong position to make certain demands, on his length of contract or on money for new players in January.
He led the team to seven wins out of eight games earlier this season, with the only reverse coming in the Europa League against Midtjylland. In his second game, O’Neill led Celtic to an extra-time win over 10-man Rangers in the League Cup semi-final, only for Wilfried Nancy to spurn a golden chance to buy time by securing the first trophy of the Scottish season, in what was just his third game in charge.
Nancy is now yesterday’s man, Martin O’Neill is back in charge and the next stage of a madcap Scottish Premiership season is underway.
