Johnny Kenny fails to convince Celtic fans as John Hartson aims subtle dig at Irishman

Johnny Kenny drew another blank for Celtic on Sunday – and had club legend John Hartson digging him out at full-time.

The Irishman missed a number of huge chances for the Hoops at home to Aberdeen.

It was the second game in a row he had flopped after Kenny struggled vs Dundee United in a defeat at Tannadice.

Celts managed this time to win the game 3-1 but it took them until stoppage time to do so.

Wilfried Nancy has started dreadfully at Parkhead with four defeats from four before the Dons rocked up.

And Kenny has been unable to help the manager even after being handed the chance through Kelechi Iheanacho’s injury.

The striker had found his footing as a Celtic player under former interim boss Martin O’Neill.

He has chipped in with five goals so far this campaign and hoped to add more to his tally.

Johnny Kenny flop has John Hartson demanding Celtic sign striker in January

But he spurned a number of opportunities and had fans demanding he be replaced with their groans.

Kenny was certainly not the only forward to miss chances with Daizen Maeda again hugely guilty.

Arne Engels also had a header from inside the six-yard box inexplicably clatter the post when it looked easier to score.

And the number of chances passed up had club hero Hartson begging manager Nancy to prioritise a new striker.

That’s when the January transfer window opens in just over a week, the Welshman urged them to move.

Taking to social media, Hartson posted: “Can we buy a centre forward in the window. Please ??”

To ensure punters knew which club he was referring to, Big Bad John accompanied his tweet with a four leaf clover emoji.

Celtic striker transfer options

Finding a marksman in the January window won’t be easy for the Scottish Premiership giants.

The winter window has never been an easy one and the club have failed to do good business in their last two.

Their summer window was also poor having missed out on Kasper Dolberg but Nancy will surely have his players shortlisted.

Reports suggest Wessam Abou Ali of Columbus Crew is believed to be of interest.

Evan Ferguson is also on Celtic’s radar with his AS Roma form leaving a lot to be desired.

The Hoops may face Everton competition for Ferguson but Celtic’s pull – the player grew up a fan – could be enough.

Kenny’s teammate Iheanacho has suffered more than one hamstring issue this term.

And that has kept him out of the squad since his freebie move in the summer.
