Evan Ferguson has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Everton ahead of the January window.
The Republic of Ireland striker has not had his troubles to seek on loan with AS Roma this season with just one goal in Serie A for the club since he arrived.
That had manager Gian Piero Gasperini considering terminating Ferguson’s loan in Rome when the market opens next month.
However, Ferguson’s brace vs Celtic in the Europa League had the boss back tracking as he blamed the forward’s lack of success on taking time to adapt in a new country.
It meant Gasperini had reconsidered Ferguson’s future and was open to keeping the player until the initially agreed upon timescale – next summer – with Brighton and Hove Albion.
Now, though, Ferguson has been named in a report namechecking the Toffees as one club who are reportedly keen on his services.

Manager David Moyes is said, by TeamTalk, to be a fan of the hitman and is willing to sanction a move for the player so long as the club hierarchy agree to the deal.
It would likely be a loan again for the frontman which would be greenlit because players are permitted to play for two clubs in a season and he has not appeared for Brighton before he departed for his stint in Italy.
Everton’s current forward line have struggled at times this season with new signing Thierno Barry seriously failing, so far, to live up to his £27million price tag from when he left Villarreal.

The Frenchman has just one strike from his 18 appearances in all competitions and is in serious need of a consistent run of form otherwise his side could really suffer.
His competition up top, Beto, has also blown hot and cold and only has two goals this season from the same number of matches, so the Toffees have relied on their midfield to help them plunder those goals they’ve needed to sit ninth in the Premier League division.

Ferguson’s future at Roma has been unclear for a number of months now and with Everton’s desire to find a goal scoring forward who can hold the ball up and help bring his teammates into play, the 21-year-old seems to be the ideal fit.
It does, however, remain to be seen whether or not the Seagulls would sanction a loan switch to another Premier League rival having already farmed Fergie out to West Ham United previously.
His time with the Irons did not necessarily go as planned, either, with no goals scored from eight matches.
He has shown himself as a player who knows where the goal is, as he showed at Brighton at times under Graham Potter.
Ferguson has 17 goals at the club from 80 appearances in all competitions and is still young enough to improve his tally.
Alongside Everton is Celtic who need a striker in January.
