Brendan Rodgers lands shock new job months after Celtic resignation

Brendan Rodgers is on the verge of landing a new job just two months after leaving Celtic.

The Northern Irishman is close to agreeing a deal to become Al-Qadsiah’s new manager in the Saudi Pro League in what will be a money-spinning move for the 52-year-old.

Rodgers resigned from Celtic back in October in a move which stunned Scottish football.

He left the Hoops at a time when they sat behind Hearts as leaders of the Scottish Premiership and was replaced by Martin O’Neill who took interim charge and impressed fans.

Rodgers has been linked with a number of jobs in England’s Premier League with Leeds United still weighing up Daniel Farke’s future while he was also named as a possible Wolves candidate before Rob Edwards was hired.

Now, though, the former Liverpool and Swansea City head coach will make the move, according to David Ornstein and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

And that will be to the ambitious division which already boasts the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Sadio Mane and Ivan Toney.

Rodgers will actually link up with a former Rangers chief, James Bisgrove, who has been working with Al-Qadsiah as their chief executive.

The Englishman has played a pivotal role in convincing Rodgers to make the move to Saudi.

The SPL has developed as a league in recent seasons with a massive influx of ex Premier League footballers.

Big name managers have also been enticed to make the switch with the likes of Simone Inzaghi and Nuno Espirito Santo previously.

Sergio Conceição and others have also taken the plunge.

Rodgers’ record as manager and trophy haul

Rodgers, however, will follow only two British managers who have worked in the league.

He will arrive after Des Buckingham at Al-Kholood and Steven Gerrard who was boss at Al-Ettifaq until he left earlier this year.

So what has Rodgers done to deserve the mega bucks move?

The coach is a winning boss and has 13 trophies to his name including 11 in Scotland with Celtic where he guided the club to becoming Invincible winners and quadruple Treble victors.

Rodgers also lifted the FA Cup with Leicester City in 2021 as well as the Community Shield at the beginning of the following campaign.

Al-Qadsiah sacked former manager Michel Gonzalez on Sunday and immediately turned their attention towards finding themselves a replacement for the ex-Real Madrid midfielder.

The club sit fifth in their league table after nine matches but felt they had to act in a bid to save their season even early on.
