Daryl Gurney was far from happy with Gerwyn Price after the Welshman’s overzealous celebrations following their World Matchplay contest on Monday evening.
The Northern Irishman found himself falling to a 10-7 defeat in their first-round clash in Blackpool.
After hitting a double 12 to check out with an 81, Price was his typical animated self, roaring to the crowd and flexing his muscles as he soaked in the atmosphere.
It’s become synonymous with Price, and while many see it as entertaining, Gurney appears to think differently.
He appeared to mock Price before his opponent walked over to him to shake hands. It’s fair to suggest that it was a firm handshake between the two, followed by a not-so-friendly exchange of words.
Price walks away, but Gurney has another word and the two share more dialogue. The Welshman then appears to have had enough and goes for one more celebratory roar to the crowd.
Earlier on in the match, Gurney appeared to replicate one of the celebrations from Price after winning the ninth set to fall 6-3 behind.
One fan online said: “Love the passion from Gerwyn, some people love giving it out in life, but hate taking it. Price has absolutely owned Gurney tonight.”
Another added: “Gurney is such a sore loser. It’s alright when Josh Rock was doing it in the World Cup. And look how gracious Price was in defeat.”
A third said: “This is what we want!! Sick of players giving each other more cuddles than I’ve given my entire family at Christmas after a match.”
A fourth was in defence of Gurney who wrote: “Gurney got fed up, like all of us with Price screaming every visit, gave it back! Look at him at the end. Embarrassing, Gurney was right with what he said.”
It’s all getting a bit heated on stage

It’s not the first time the duo have had a confrontation on stage. In 2019, Gurney took great joy in beating Price and making sure he was aware of his celebrations.
Speaking after his victory, Price made a point of saying how he was happy to keep his emotions in check.
He said: “I just felt like I needed to keep myself composed.
“Sometimes I was forcing not to let my emotions get the best of me and sometimes that’s what happens and I can let out the emotions out and then the next leg is not so good, so sometimes I try and control it and I did in that game.
“I think possibly that’s what got me over the winning line is just trying to keep everything intact and then let it go at the end.
“I have learnt to keep my emotions intact and I think I did today in two or three legs where my head was going to blow off, but I just had to keep it in.”
Price is back in action on Thursday and is the heavy favourite to beat Chris Dobey with Irish bookmakers.
