After his sensational display in the preliminary rounds, Shane McGuirk has made it to the televised Winmau World Masters Round 1.
‘The Arrow’ will face 14th seed Nathan Aspinall on Thursday night in his first PDC major appearance since securing his Tour Card.
Shane McGuirk Faces Nathan Aspinall In Winmau World Masters Round 1
Despite five darts players from the Emerald Isle starting out in the 2026 Winmau World Masters Preliminary Rounds line-up, only one progressed through to the first round of the televised 32-man tournament.
That player was Shane McGuirk, who progressed all the way from the Group Stage into the last eight of the knockout stages, meaning he earned one of the eight spots up for grabs.
‘The Arrow’ will join the likes of back-to-back world champion Luke Littler, three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen and Luke Humphries in Round 1 of the World Masters on Thursday.
McGuirk was Ireland’s last hope on Wednesday and needed to beat Scott Waites to book his place in the World Masters line-up. He did just that, averaging 96.28 in the process to win 3-1 and continue his dream start to life as a PDC Tour Card holder.

His reward? A first round meeting with two-time PDC major winner Nathan Aspinall. ‘The Asp’ will face off with the Castleblayney man in their first round tie on Thursday night, with the winner booking their place in the Last 16 of the tournament on Saturday.
The 30-year-old Irishman is already guaranteed a minimum of £5,000 in prize money for reaching the first round, but could double that if he makes the Last 16. Should McGuirk get past Aspinall in their best-of-five-sets tungsten tussle on Thursday night, he could face the 2026 World Darts Championship finalist in the next round.
The winner of Aspinall vs McGuirk will face either Gian van Veen or Ryan Joyce in Round 2, before a possible quarter-final meeting with former two-time world champion Gary Anderson or James Wade.
But first, McGuirk will have to do the business and get past Aspinall, who will be a firm favourite to end the hopes of the Monaghan man in the Winmau World Masters.

Shane McGuirk Won Five Prelim Matches To Qualify For World Masters
No matter what happens in his first round tie with Nathan Aspinall at the 2026 Winmau World Masters, Shane McGuirk’s debut as a PDC Tour Card holder has been one to remember already.
‘The Arrow’ won all five games in the prelims in Milton Keynes on Wednesday, which included going head-to-head with Niall Culleton, another Irish darts player who secured his Tour Card at UK Q-School earlier this month.
The 2024 WDF World Championship winner defeated Culleton, Stefaan Henderyck, Cameron Menzies, Keane Barry and Scott Waites en route to earning qualification into the first round of the World Masters 32-man tournament.

What’s more impressive was McGuirk’s consistency across the five games. His lowest average was 92.55 in his 3-1 win over Menzies, with his best average of 97.71 coming in his first game against Culleton.
This kind of consistency is what makes McGuirk a world-class darts player. Although he mightn’t regularly post averages of 100+, he almost always averages in the mid-high 90s which is often good enough to win darts matches.
If the 30-year-old can replicate that kind of form against Aspinall on Thursday night, he has every chance of sweeping ‘The Asp’ aside and booking his place in the second round of the World Masters this weekend.
