The 2025 World Matchplay takes place from July 19-27 at the iconic Winter Gardens in Blackpool, with the eagerly anticipated summer darts showdown bringing 32 of the best players in the game to compete for the Phil Taylor trophy and the headline £225,000 cash prize.
This year’s edition of the World Matchplay, which forms part of the PDC’s Triple Crown alongside the World Championship and the Premier League, will see Luke Humphries defend his crown.
Cool Hand Luke secured glory in the tournament for the first time, beating Michael van Gerwen 18-15 in the engrossing final
Humphries should be fired up to defend his crown, especially after the poor showing in the World Cup of Darts, when he partnered Luke Littler. On that occasion, Northern Ireland’s Daryl Gurney and Josh Rock stepped up when it mattered to go all the way in Frankfurt.
World Champion Littler will also be seeking to rediscover his form on the big stage, once again, in Blackpool.
