Sean McComb fears news WBC super-lightweight world champion Dalton Smith won’t fight him as ‘Matchroom know I’m a nightmare’.
‘The Public Nuisance’ is aiming to challenge for world honours in the 140-pound division this year.
Sean McComb Fears World Title Fight vs Dalton Smith Won’t Happen
Sean McComb is in the form of his life right now as he begins to close in on a maiden world title shot in the super-lightweight division.
The Belfast fighter had an incredibly successful three fights last year, with the last being arguably a career-best performance in Monaco on a huge Matchroom Boxing show.
McComb entered the IBF top 15 rankings after his demolition job over Hugo Micallef, which saw ‘The Public Nuisance’ stop the hometown hero in eight rounds just a matter of weeks before Christmas.
The 33-year-old retained his IBF European Super-Lightweight Title in the process, and even called out IBF champion Richardson Hitchins in the aftermath of his impressive victory.

Although it seems unlikely that McComb will be granted a world title shot against Hitchins next, he isn’t a million miles away from landing a world title fight in any of the four main sanctioning bodies.
Undefeated British 140-pound fighter Dalton Smith recently became the WBC champion after stopping Subriel Matias in New York, and looks set to defend his green and gold belt for the first time before the summer.
A fight versus Smith is one that has been talked about before for McComb, but the 21-2 fighter isn’t filled with confidence that he could get a shot at the new WBC world champion next.
Although a fight between Smith and McComb has been touted before, the Belfast man fears he won’t get picked to face ‘Thunder’ due to his style and ability to make any fighter in the world look ordinary.

McComb: ‘Matchroom Know I’m A Nightmare’
Speaking to ESBR Boxing in a recent interview, Sean McComb gave an honest assessment of his chances of fighting new WBC champion Dalton Smith at some stage this year.
The 33-year-old has a strong relationship with Matchroom having boxed on several of their shows, including his last fight in Monaco, but feels this could actually work against him.
McComb eyed a world title showdown with IBF world champion Richardson Hitchins after his last fight, and feels this route is his most likely path to a world title, not a fight with Smith:

“Matchroom know I’m a nightmare. They know their boxing. Eddie [Hearn] knows his boxing, Frank Smith knows his boxing, Dalton’s camp know their boxing.
“They know I’m a nightmare opponent for anybody. I can make people look bad, regardless of results.
“Realistically, I’m banking on becoming world champion with a different governing body, and then making a big world title fight unification between me and Dalton. That’s the only way I see it happening,” concluded McComb.
As of yet, nothing has been announced regarding McComb’s next fight and ring return. ‘The Public Nuisance’ would be a likely candidate to be on the undercard of Lewis Crocker’s first world title defence, if that lands in Belfast.
McCombs promoters GBM Sports teased a huge 2026 for their Irish boxing star, which could well result in a world title challenge before the end of the year. If not, it’s big fights only that will get McComb closer to that world title and a shot at any of the 140-pound belts.
