Sean McComb Calls Out Richardson Hitchins For World Title Fight

Sean McComb has set his sights on IBF World Super-Lightweight champion Richardson Hitchins after his latest victory in Monaco.

McComb stopped Hugo Micallef in Round 8 after a totally one-sided beating, and was quick to call-out Hitchins for his world title on the mic post-fight.

Belfast’s Sean McComb put in a career-best performance in Monaco this past weekend, stopping the previously undefeated Hugo Micallef in emphatic fashion after a one-sided beating of the hometown hero.

McComb knocked his opponent down three times en route to a Round 8 stoppage victory, extending his professional record to 21-2 with a sixth knockout and first since February 2020.

After his third victory this calendar year, ‘The Public Nuisance’ made no secret of his desire to challenge for world honours as soon as possible. Perhaps even next, considering he has proved himself at world level before.

McComb successfully defended his IBF European Super-Lightweight Title, which means he has a reasonably strong ranking with the governing body. However, he is yet to break inside the IBF’s top 15.

In his post-fight interview, the Belfast man made his intentions crystal clear of who he wants to fight next. The 33-year-old was quick to call out Richardson Hitchins, who currently reigns at 140-pounds and holds the IBF red-and-gold strap.

Hitchins is currently 20-0 and hasn’t fought since retaining his IBF title back in June against former world champion George Kambosos Jr. His next fight is yet to be confirmed, but McComb is most definitely a potential opponent for the unbeaten American fighter.

The Belfast man is promoted by Izzy Asif and GBM, who have a strong relationship with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom, hence McComb’s inclusion on this Monaco show. A bit of Hearn magic could see McComb land his dream fight against Hitchins at some stage in 2026.

Richardson Hitchins Dismisses Sean McComb Call Out

Sean McComb called out Pierce O’Leary for a mouth-watering all-Irish super-lightweight fight earlier this year, but it seems both men are going in different directions for the meantime before a potential super-fight at some stage next year.

In the meantime, McComb has set his sights on IBF super-lightweight king Richardson Hitchins. The Belfast man was quick to call-out the American following his eighth round stoppage victory over Hugo Micallif in Monaco.

Hitchins was quick to respond to McComb’s call-out, reacting on social media. The American world champion quickly dismissed McComb’s call-out, insisting that he has no idea who ‘The Public Nuisance’ is.

Hitchin’s response to McComb seems disrespectful, considering the Belfast man beat Arnold Barboza Jr in many people’s eyes last year but got robbed on the scorecards.

Boxing fans were quick to respond to Hitchins’ dismissal too, stating that the American knows exactly who McComb is, even if he denies these sentiments himself.

It remains to be seen whether or not Hitchins obliges and defends his IBF World Super-Lightweight Title against McComb next.

It seems unlikely this will be the case. However, McComb is firmly knocking on the door of a world title shot once again, and may well get his reward at some stage in 2026 against one of the other champions if not Hitchins.
