Evan Ferguson has been placed on red alert with AS Roma chasing ANOTHER loan striker.
Ferguson has not had it easy in the Italian capital since moving from Brighton and Hove Albion.
Manager Gian Piero Gasperini has been unsure on Ferguson with his statistics leaving a little to be desired.
The forward has found the net five times for the Serie A giants from 21 appearances in all competitions.
That left Ferguson’s future up in the air with Gasperini considering cutting his loan short.
Troy Deeney defended Ferguson over the manager’s treatment of the striker, but that hasn’t appeared to help much.
So much so, in fact, that Roma are now believed to be seeking fresh options up front.
According to multiple reports, Roma are hopeful of adding Marseille frontman Robinio Vaz.
There is set to be a future option for the 18-year-old at around £25million.
Injury to Artem Dovbyk and a minor knock to Ferguson has seemingly forced Gasperini to move.
But it could leave the Republic of Ireland international in a difficult spot when he makes his comeback.
Given the finances involved, it would make sense for Roma to swoop for Vaz on a permanent deal.
And that might put paid to the 21-year-old’s time at the Olimpico Stadium.
The January transfer window is halfway gone which could see the forward remain in Italy.
However, that is not a guarantee.
He will have plenty of other options, though.
Other clubs are keen with Everton interested in Ferguson while he has options to remain in Italy.
Napoli are believed to be one of the clubs keen on the big man.
Although, as it stands, Roma still hold all the cards.
Parent club Brighton have shifted the responsibility to the loan side which could potentially make things awkward.
Roma know the player has talents that other strikers cannot offer.
His abilities as a target man and his finishing is top drawer.
Ferguson also has plenty of experience in front of goal having found the net numerous times in the Premier League.
So it might make more sense for the Romans to keep the player around for the full loan period.
But it will all depend on what Ferguson wants as he can still play for another club this season.
That does put the marksman in a position of power, to an extent, as he can force an exit should he desire.
