Thurles Horse Racing Tips: Best Bets For Thursday

See here our best bets for Thursday’s action at Thurles headlined by the Horse & Jockey Handicap Hurdle.

As of Tuesday morning, the ground remains soft, soft to heavy in places on the hurdles track and soft to heavy on the chase track.

From that update, around 15-20mm of rain was due to hit but the fixture is not believed to be in doubt and should go ahead as planned.

Thurles Horse Racing Tips

  • 1:25 – Cowper Hall @ 2/1
  • 2:25 – Mode Avion @ 10/1 E/W
  • 3:25 – Love Like This @ 22/1 E/W

1:25 – Leugh Beginners Chase – COWPER HALL @ 2/1

The opening race of the card is an intriguing beginners’ chase and with Gavin Cromwell’s yard starting to enjoy a rich vein of form, COWPER HALL makes the most appeal.

He was well-fancied to get off the mark at Tramore on New Year’s Day before being badly hampered by a faller and unseating three out but a clear round should see him go close this time.

The son of Affinisea was just starting to get in a nice groove when his race was brought to an end and going up in trip with cheekpieces on is a statement of intent.

His hurdles win at Fairyhouse last month was a good performance, for which he earned a mark of 109 and there must be plenty more improvement to come over fences.

2:25 – Thurles Maiden Hurdle – MODE AVION @ 10/1 E/W

MODE AVION has failed up live up to expectation since moving to Gordon Elliott after winning a bumper in France however the Gigginstown House Stud representative is worth another chance.

The form of his third to Sopelana on Irish debut at Punchestown has worked out nicely with that rival running with credit in a Listed race at Newbury and winning a handicap hurdle off 113 on Monday.

He ran below expectation at Limerick over Christmas but there is reason to believe he’s much better than what he showed that day and isn’t one to give up on just yet.

The ground will be no problem and he could hit the frame each-way.

3:25 – Killinan Handicap Hurdle – LOVE LIKE THIS @ 22/1 E/W

John Ryan’s LOVE LIKE THIS tends to kick into gear around this time of year, with a run of 3-4-3-2 in four runs from January to March 2025 with the last effort being at this track and a switch back over hurdles might be just what the doctor ordered.

Talented 7lb claimer Michael Kenneally takes the ride and she has a lot to prove based on her last two runs but some of her best efforts have come at this sort of trip.

She must be better than a mark of 88 over the smaller obstacles and she was running some big races off as high as 92 last year.

At a big price the daughter of Ol’ Man River is worth a stab.
