Danny Murphy’s PRAIRIE GIRL is in fine form at this venue having posted two wins and a runner-up in her last three starts and a chance is taken on her upward curve to continue.
The Mehmas filly is up 8lbs from her victory a month ago but there’s every reason to believe she’s progressive enough to combat that and technically she has finished first past the post in all three previous outings, demoted for interference in December.
She won going away over course-and-distance last month under a proactive front-running ride from Patrick McGerrigan and the four-year-old is sure to be up on the pace once again with every chance in the finish.
The fourth from that day, Denis Hogan’s Dontspoilasale since won over six furlongs at this track and the form looks rock solid.
5:45 – BAR 1 Betting Bet 10 Get 50 Free Bets Race – FLANKER JET @ 5/2
This is a competitive heat and it’s difficult to split FLANKER JET and his stablemate Fate’s Gambit but preference is narrowly awarded to the former.
The son of Oasis Dream showed an attitude to die for when getting off the mark here just a few weeks ago with a game victory from Donnacha O’Brien’s Astronomically and he’s been the subject of some intriguing market moves this year.
Clearly the team at home hold him in high regard and his mark of 81 puts him right up at the top in this company so a reproduction of his previous effort should be enough to go close.
Seven furlongs is a match made in heaven for the three-year-old after failing to see out a mile in the new year and it’d be no surprise to see him make a bold bid.
6:15 – Put The Fun In Fundraising At Dundalk Handicap – VELVET SKIES @ 15/2 E/W
There is plenty to be encouraged by looking at the recent performances of VELVET SKIES and he must hold every chance of hitting the frame in a tricky race.
The five-year-old dead heated for third here behind a thoroughly progressive type in Paul Flynn’s Moyassr at the end of January, now rated 77 and on that effort Velvet Skies is well capable of eclipsing 69.
He wasn’t dealt the best of hands with a wide draw that day and while nine isn’t overly ideal on this occasion he has shown the ability to negate negative ones and Chris Hayes is a man who knows Dundalk like the back of his hand.
Two runner-up finishes before that are more positives to consider and he gets a tentative each-way nod.
