Lambourn, Lazy Griff and Tennessee Stud have all been confirmed for Saturday’s Irish Derby at the Curragh.
The Epsom 1-2-3 are set to go head-to-head once again in the Irish renewal where the winner will collect over €700,000.
Lambourn is the odds-on favourite with the top betting sites in Ireland to back up his heroics from earlier this month when making all in the hands of Wayne Lordan.
Now to be partnered by the best jockey on planet Earth in Ryan Moore, the three-year-old holds obvious claims back on home soil after landing Aidan O’Brien a record-extending 11th triumph on the downs.
The Ballydoyle maestro is seeking a 17th win in the Irish version, bidding to make it three in a row following successes by Auguste Rodin and Los Angeles in 2023 and 2024.
Lambourn has tasted defeat just once this season when finishing second on reappearance to Delacroix in the Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown in March, later going on to land the Chester Vase Stakes in May.
Joseph O’Brien’s Tennessee Stud (7/2) – who got within a length of runner-up Lazy Griff (14/1) to finish third – is fancied to reverse that formline, being one of the only challengers to lay a glove from the rear on a day with a huge pace bias.
When declaring his intention for another crack at Classic glory with Tennessee Stud, O’Brien mentioned he thinks 12 furlongs at the Curragh will suit him well and he has a tidy bit of course form from a silver medal in the Beresford Stakes last September – finishing seven lengths ahead of Lambourn that day.
Jessica Harrington’s Green Impact will take his place in the field, venturing beyond nine furlongs for the first time after a cosy win in the Listed Glencairn Stakes at Leopardstown on June 5.
The Wootton Bassett colt finished sixth in the English 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket in May but his best form came in his juvenile campaign, beating Delacroix over a mile twice and looking like a smart prospect.
There is encouragement to be taken from his pedigree regarding the new trip as Green Impact is out of a Galileo mare who stayed 1m 5f and any rain would be welcome for his chances.
Also lining up is Ralph Beckett’s Pride Of Arras, bidding to bounce back after beating one of his 17 rivals at Epsom when sent off the 4/1 second favourite following a promising showing in the Dante Stakes at York previously.
