Gavin Cromwell is eyeing major improvement from Inothewayurthinkin in the Savills Chase.
The seven-year-old is currently vying for favouritism with Willie Mullins star Galopin Des Champs, the pair set to renew their rivalry for the first time since the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March.
Inothewayurthinkin made his return to action in the John Durkan Chase at Punchestown last month, beaten over 52 lengths at an inadequate 2m 4f trip and his trainer is hoping for a better showing with that run under his belt.
“I think he’s progressed since the John Durkan,” Cromwell told the Racing Post.
“He was beaten a long way but he was probably taken off his feet for all of the race. He did jump well and stayed on well.
“He’s on target for the Savills and the step up in trip is going to be a big help.”

The ante-post market is struggling to split the top two, available at 2/1 apiece but there’s every reason to suggest Inothewayurthinkin can close the 15-length gap on Galopin Des Champs from this race 12 months ago.
The latter is arriving at Leopardstown without a prep run having missed an intended assignment in the John Durkan with a small setback and now about to turn ten years of age, he could need this to dust the cobwebs off.
The Dublin venue has been a very happy hunting ground for Galopin Des Champs though, a perfect seven from seven over fences at Leopardstown with six Grade 1 wins including three Irish Gold Cups.
The tables were turned at Cheltenham when Inothewayurthinkin ran away a ready winner of the Gold Cup, where many were left convinced Galopin Des Champs failed to give his true running.
Also set to produce a bold bid is Martin Brassil’s Fastorslow, who will skip a Kempton away day for the Savills following a good comeback run at Punchestown.
Fact To File was the longtime favourite for the Savills before the decision was made to send him to the King George, which can be seen as sending a number of different signals.
It might be a great endorsement of Inothewayurthinkin’s chances considering he also races in the green and gold hoops of JP McManus.
On the other hand, McManus also has an ear into the Mullins yard and it could be because Galopin Des Champs is working the house down ahead of his return.
Inothewayurthinkin hasn’t been able to lay a glove on his rival at Leopardstown, beaten a combined 22 lengths in the Savills and Irish Gold Cup last season.
