Will Ferry earns MLS transfer interest as Dundee United braced for bids

Dundee United’s Will Ferry has two suitors in the MLS vying for his signature this window.

The midfielder, 25, has excelled at Tannadice since he arrived in 2024 from Cheltenham.

It was a big move for the player back then but he has become a valued talent for the Arabs.

Ferry made 25 appearances for the club this season alone and provided three assists.

But his versatility has been applauded as well as his adaptability which could be why two clubs are sniffing around and considering a swoop for the playmaker.

According to reports in the Courier up north, Vancouver Whitecaps are one side keen on the Irishman.

MLS clubs consider move for Dundee United’s Will Ferry

The Canada-based club had a bid for the player booted into touch back in August.

That’s because the Tangerines wanted a seven-figure deal as part of their valuation of their man,

That was not forthcoming in the summer window but it is claimed they are ready to return to the negotiating table with another offer in the winter window.

They do, however, now face serious competition from a fellow MLS side.

According to the same publication, Real Salt Lake are also weighing a move for the midfielder-turned-wing-back.

The MLS transfer window opens on January 23 and does not close until April which gives teams the chance to arrive a little later than Scotland’s window to do deals.

United are in no rush to sell their asset as Ferry remains under contract until 2027.

That puts the Scottish club in a strong bargaining position with any suitors.

They are not in a position to have to sell, either.

Ferry helped United qualify last season for Europe which certainly boosted his profile.

Would transfer give Ferry better chance of Republic of Ireland call?

He also performed well in Conference League qualification and landed a Republic of Ireland call-up.

Ferry has played for the Irish national side through the ranks of under-18s, 19s and 21s.

But he is yet to be handed an A team cap which will likely be the next milestone on his agenda.

Clubs have monitored that progress and United had a conversation with a club from the Netherlands’ top flight.

That didn’t result in an offer but shows the level at which Ferry is playing when Eredivisie calls come.

Ferry’s form at United will keep him, surely, in Heimir Hallgrimsson’s thoughts.

That comes before the Ireland World Cup playoff tie vs Czechia in March.

But a move to a bigger club should it come will also have the manager keeping an even closer watch.
