Just one day after his arrival was announced, Rodrigo Freitas hit the goal trail for Shelbourne in a pre-season warm-up game against Dundalk.
Shels won 2-1 in the friendly clash on Tuesday, with the other goal coming from John Martin.
Shelbourne manager Joey O’Brien will be pleased with the instant impact from his new Portuguese signing, hoping that it is a sign of things to come, with the new League of Ireland season just a couple of weeks away.
Rodrigo Freitas has arrived at Tolka Park after an undisclosed fee was agreed with Varzim SC in Portugal’s third tier, where he has scored six goals in 14 appearances this season.
The 23-year-old striker has been described by O’Brien as having “high technical ability and a strong goal threat.”

The boss further detailed the player’s willingness to make the move to Dublin after tracking his progress for some time.
Shels technical director Luke Byrne added that, “We’ve been very impressed with Rodrigo, both as a player and as a person.
“He was determined to join the club and wants to help the team be successful. We think he complements the group very well, he’s a goalscorer and plays with real intensity.
“We’re really happy to have finally got him in the building.”
It has been reported that the striker was identified using Jamestown Analytics, the same data system deployed to great effect by Brighton and Hearts.
Freitas will be an important figure as Shels look to push on this season, following their third-place finish last season in the League of Ireland Premier Division.
It was also a memorable year following qualification for the Europa Conference League, which impacted domestic efforts, but has also brought in crucial revenue for the club, making space for signings such as Rodrigo Freitas, Odhran Casey, and Maill Lundgren.
