What made Robbie Keane cry after Ferencvaros’ Alex Toth Premier League sale

Robbie Keane has admitted he shed a tear after receiving a heartwarming message from Alex Toth.

The Hungarian international made a life changing switch from Ferencvaros to join Bournemouth.

His Premier League dream has been realised and the £10.4million signing will hope to make an impact.

Republic of Ireland icon Keane, manager at Ferencvaros, will also be desperate to see his protegé succeed.

And he explained after the deal was concluded how he cried after helping a player reach his target.

A quick conversation with his Mrs. was all it took to open the floodgates, so to speak.

Speaking after Toth penned a contract with the Cherries, Keane was chuffed for the midfielder.

Why Robbie Keane ‘cried’ after selling Alex Toth to Bournemouth

And he revealed how a simple picture and note from his former player got him uncharacteristically emotional.

“(Toth) sent me a picture yesterday on the private jet,” Keane began.

“He sat on it for the first time in his life with the Bournemouth kit on him.

“He sent me a long message, thanking me that I changed his life.

“I called my wife and started crying, even though I barely cry.”

It was clearly a poignant moment for the former Liverpool, Celtic, Tottenham and Inter Milan forward.

The 45-year-old manager had his fair share of moves throughout his own career.

So it’s likely he was on many a private jet with his agents and club representation.

But life is clearly different now for the retired striker who is living vicariously through his own squad.

And for a success story like Toth, it must hit different.

What Toth has said about leaving Ferencvaros for Cherries

But why did the player decide to leave Keane and Groupama Arena?

To play top flight football in England, of course.

The Hungarian has watched countrymen Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez perform for Liverpool.

And he hopes to emulate the pair on his own journey.

“It feels amazing to be a part of this club and I am excited to achieve good things,” he told his new club’s website after completing his move.

“When I knew AFC Bournemouth were first interested in me, I was excited.

“And happy because this is a good club in the Premier League, the best and strongest league in world.

“The whole club, the whole structure is great.

“When I was speaking to the directors, it was quite obvious for me because they were such good guys.

“I am really looking forward to achieving great things and making good results with this team.”
