Johnny Kenny given Celtic death note as Motherwell ‘makeweight’ suggestion floated

Celtic have been urged to use Johnny Kenny as a makeweight in efforts to land Motherwell star Tawanda Maswanhise.

The Zimbabwe international is a reported Hoops target having netted 15 times for the Steelmen this term.

Celts are desperate for a wide player as well as a new striker and many fans feel Maswanhise fits the bill.

The Scottish champions are even believed to have undertaken a personal scouting mission last week.

Interim boss Martin O’Neill was in attendance at Fir Park as the playmaker scored again.

Now one pundit has made an interesting suggestion amid discussions over a new forward needed in Glasgow.

Peter Martin of PLZ Soccer believes struggling Celtic man Kenny could tempt ‘Well to part with their own attacker.

Johnny Kenny urged to be Celtic makeweight for Tawanda Maswanhise

And it all comes down, in Martin’s mind, to the fact that Kenny’s career with the Bhoys won’t last long.

The pundit also namedropped other striker and wide player targets Celtic have been linked with.

Yet, he kept coming back to the Motherwell star.

“The Lorient player, Mohamed Bamba, has scored one in sixteen,” Martin said.

“So that doesn’t fill you with confidence.

“There’s another guy that they were talking about who is possibly going to come in on loan from Wolfsburg.

“He’s carrying an injury, so you can throw that one right out the window. He needs players to start.

“Maswanhise? I’m looking at it and I’m saying to myself: ‘Maswanhise makes perfect sense’.

“On the basis that he’s scoring goals.

“Fifteen for Motherwell, scored a goal in the African Cup of Nations.

“But over and above that, they could give Stephen Welsh back to Motherwell.

“They could actually throw Johnny Kenny in as a makeweight.

“Because Johnny Kenny doesn’t have a future at Celtic.”

Celtic close to Tomas Cvancara transfer

Celtic are desperately close to finally landing the forward they’ve needed for over a year.

After Kyogo left, then Adam Idah, Celts have missed out on numerous targets.

But now they are set to finalise a loan with an option to buy Borussia Monchengladbach striker Tomas Cvancara.

The Czechia cap, 25, is currently travelling from Germany for a medical in London.

Cvancara will join Kenny as only the second recognised frontman at Celtic in the squad.

And while the Hoops need more work done before the end of the window, it is a start.

O’Neill wants a right-sided winger, a la Maswanhise, and a right-sided central defender to bolster his ranks.

Any signing plan made under the sacked Wilfried Nancy has been scrapped which leaves them scrambling.

But there are many names and options who have been put forward.
