David Harrington has joined Bolton Wanderers from Fleetwood Town in a permanent deal after an undisclosed fee was agreed between the two clubs.
The Cork-born goalkeeper swaps League Two for League One and a great career opportunity with the Trotters, who are well-positioned in the promotion race for the Championship.
Despite his Irish upbringing and breakthrough at Cobh Ramblers before moving on to Cork City, Harrington’s international aspirations are with Wales. His only call-up for the Republic of Ireland senior squad was in May 2024, but six months later, he was part of the Wales setup.
He qualifies through his father, Phil, who was also a professional keeper.
The 25-year-old is uncapped for Wales, currently led by Craig Bellamy, but he has been called up for squads and training camps in the recent past.
David Harrington has made eight appearances for Fleetwood this season, but all of them have been in cup competitions, none in League 2.
On his move to Bolton Wanderers, he said:
“It’s a challenge I want to take on. I think it’s just such a big club.
“Coming in and looking at the ground, it’s an unbelievable ground, with unbelievable facilities.
“The club is looking to go on an upward trajectory and I think it’s definitely something I want to be a part of. Every time I pass the stadium, even when you’re going down the motorway and you see the size of the ground, you’re in awe. Now that I’m actually here, I’m delighted.”
Bolton Wanderers are delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper David Harrington from Fleetwood Town.

The keeper spent three years at Fleetwood after winning the LOI First Division with Cork City in 2023.
He joins Bolton at a time of flux in the goalkeeping department for Steven Schumacher’s squad.
Their first-choice keeper for most of this season, Teddy Sharman-Lowe, has been recalled by Chelsea and his understudy, Tyler Miller, has returned to his native United States.
To fill the void, David Harrington has been recruited, along with the arrival of Jack Bonham from Stoke City, a moving part in a goalkeeper domino effect.
The experienced 32-year-old previously worked with Schumacher at Stoke, and has signed an 18-month deal with his new club.
