Damien Duff says his handshake row with Stephen Bradley has got “out of control” and he’s now keen to turn his attention to football.
The Shelbourne boss intensified his verbal row with the Shamrock Rovers manager last week when claiming he refused to shake Bradley’s hand because he didn’t deserve his respect.
Following their 2-2 draw last month, Duff failed to acknowledge his managerial counterpart, with the former Chelsea winger heading straight down the tunnel.
That led to Bradley writing in the matchday programme notes that Duff’s behaviour “wasn’t good enough” and described it as “such a lack of respect.”
Duff is now eager to let bygones be bygones and turn his full focus on defending their title success following an important comeback victory over St Pat’s on Friday night.
Kerr McInroy grabbed a 90th-minute winner to ensure Shelbourne’s 2-1 victory and leave them sixth, four points off Shamrock Rovers at the summit.
Speaking after the game, Duff said: “It has absolutely got out of control.
“It’s a story for you, it looks like it is. When there are wonderful football games going on around the country and this is getting airtime, I find it a little bit disappointing.
“There are wonderful reporters in this room and you are writing about this nonsense. To give my sentiment on it really, he who is without sin let him cast the first stone.
“I am not perfect. He’s not perfect and everybody needs to keep schtum now and get on with their football. It is very simple.”
It was another captivating round of results that ensured just six points separate the top eight teams in the league. Shamrock Rovers thumped Drogheda 3-0 to retain their top spot on goal difference over Derry City.
Tiernan Lynch’s side grabbed a late winner through Kevin Holt to beat Cork City 2-1 while there were wins for Waterford and Bohemians.
