Ian Garry Shares Shock Injury With Forehead Cut

Just days before Christmas, Ian Machado Garry has taken to social media sharing what looks like a head injury to his 1.1million+ Instagram followers.

The Irishman looks to have sustained a small cut on his forehead while playing games and having fun with his three-year-old son.

The #3 ranked UFC welterweight contender shared two brief videos to his Instagram story showing the cut and his son playing with a metal teapot, which seems to be the object used to inflict the injury.

Garry, who was ranked as the sixth best MMA fighter under 30 by ESPN in 2025, shared a video of his son trying to clean up the blood from his forehead cut with a tissue whilst ironically shaking his head.

“Dad life giving me more injuries than pro fighting,” Garry wrote as the caption to his Instagram story.

The second video showed Garry’s son holding the teapot, which seems to have been the object that struck Garry’s forehead and forced the skin to break.

‘The Future’ saw the funny side of it, laughing with his son whilst sarcastically shaking his head and showing his Instagram followers the damage caused.

Although there was blood, the cut is very minor and won’t require any stitches or further attention. All being well, Garry’s head injury should heal in days whilst he enjoys Christmas with his family.

Will Ian Garry Fight For The UFC Welterweight Title In 2026?

Despite dropping down the UFC welterweight rankings, Ian Machado Garry looks primed for a shot at the UFC Welterweight Title in 2026.

The Irishman demanded a shot at the 170-pound belt after beating former champion Belal Muhammad last time out, calling out Islam Makhachev for the belt and a showdown next year.

Makhachev vs Garry may well be next for the welterweight crown, but there is also a possibility the 28-year-old will be forced to bide his time and wait a little longer for his shot at UFC gold.

Shavkat Rakhmonov, who is the only person to have beaten Garry in MMA, looks set to return from injury in early 2026 and could well be granted the shot at Makhachev by UFC President Dana White.

If Garry isn’t next, he may just have to wait his turn and be granted a shot at the title at the back end of 2026.

Another option would be to pick up one more win against a fellow top contender, cementing his spot as the next challenger to Makhachev and the UFC Welterweight Title.

If Garry could secure one more win over the likes of Michael Morales, Jack Della Maddalena or even Kamaru Usman, he simply cannot be denied his shot at the welterweight world title next year.

Some people don’t feel the Irishman deserves his shot at the belt next, with Jorge Masvidal slamming Garry for his recent performance against Muhammad and his comments about former champion Usman.

Whether or not Ian Machado Garry gets a shot at the UFC Welterweight Title next remains to be seen. If he doesn’t get the next opportunity, rest assured he will at some stage in 2026.
