Ex-UFC star Jorge Masvidal has roasted welterweight contender Ian Machado Garry over his comments about Kamaru Usman getting the next title shot.
Garry insists he should get the next shot at Islam Makhachev and the 170-pound belt, with Masvidal sharing his thoughts on Garry’s disrespect for former champion Usman.
MMA fans may have thought they’d never see the day Jorge Masvidal would be on the same side as former foe and ex-rival Kamaru Usman.
Masvidal and Usman shared the octagon twice in the UFC, with Usman defeating ‘Gambred’ twice for the UFC Welterweight Championship.
‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ first beat Masvidal via decision at UFC 251 back in July 2020, before defeating him via emphatic knockout in their UFC 261 rematch nine months later.
It’s fair to say that Masvidal and Usman didn’t see eye to eye during their rivalry, but that tide has turned lately with ‘Street Jesus’ now defending Usman over comments made by welterweight contender Ian Machado Garry.

Garry dropped down the UFC welterweight rankings despite nobody inside the top 15 fighting, meaning he now sits as the #3 ranked contender in the 170-pound division.
The champion is of course Islam Makhachev, with Jack Della Maddalena the #1 contender and Shavkat Rakhmonov now ranked above ‘The Future’ at #2.
The Irishman has been clamouring for a shot at Makhachev and the UFC Welterweight Title since beating former champion Belal Muhammad last time out, dismissing Usman’s chances along the way.
Garry has revealed he feels Usman is totally irrelevant in the welterweight title picture, ripping into the former champion on multiple occasions.
This is something Masvidal has a problem with. The American hasn’t taken too kindly to Garry’s comments about Usman, and has jumped in to defend his former foe whilst also hammering the 28-year-old.

In a recent interview with Death Row MMA, Jorge Masvidal had some strong words for Ian Machado Garry, who he feels has totally disrespected the credentials of former long-reigning welterweight king Kamaru Usman.
“I never thought I’d actually be here advocating for Usman or anything but here I am,” Masvidal told Death Row MMA.
“Him calling Usman a has-been is so crazy because you’ve never even been, brother. You’re nothing.
“I never see anybody talking about this guy like he deserves the next shot, it’s only him and his wife talking about he deserves the next title shot,” said the former UFC BMF Title holder.

Masvidal obviously isn’t too happy about Garry’s comments, and feels he is being totally disrespectful to one of the best 170-pound fighters to have ever graced the octagon.
The retired MMA fighter feels Garry’s comments are totally uncalled for, and even doubled down insisting that Usman would still beat the Irishman if they ever shared the cage:
“Maybe he’s pushing 40-year-old Usman, but I still see Usman beating the crap out of Ian Garry,” concluded ‘Gamebred’.
It’s clear that Masvidal isn’t a huge fan of Garry, who ranked as the sixth best MMA fighter under 30 in ESPN’s rankings for 2025.
