Conor McGregor Called Out By Mauricio Ruffy At UFC 325

Mauricio Ruffy was quick to call-out Conor McGregor amid speculation of the Irishman making a sensational return to the octagon this year.

The UFC lightweight contender called out McGregor following his UFC 325 victory over Rafael Fiziev.

Following his impressive victory at UFC 325, UFC lightweight contender Mauricio Ruffy was quick to call-out former dual-weight simultaneous world champion Conor McGregor.

The Brazilian brutally knocked out Rafael Fiziev in two rounds to secure a career-best win and a $100,000 ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus, and was quick to turn his attention to a potential super-fight next.

Ruffy is a striking specialist, and was quick to call-out another expert striker in McGregor. McGregor shared new training footage recently which indicates he is deadly serious about making his return to the octagon, and Ruffy could well be the perfect opponent for him.

The Irishman is adamant that he will return to action at UFC White House this summer, but is yet to have an opponent lined up by UFC President Dana White.

There was previous speculation that McGregor would face long-term rival Michael Chandler, but White shut that conversation down abruptly. There were also brief rumours of a Jorge Masvidal fight, which White also dismissed.

With McGregor on the lookout for an opponent for his comeback bout, Ruffy could well be the man to fit the bill. Although Ruffy is a lightweight and McGregor’s return would likely be up at welterweight, it’s a fight that makes sense for both parties.

Ruffy was quick to call out McGregor and Paddy Pimblett following his impressive UFC 325 victory over Fiziev, doing so via an interpreter in his post-fight in-cage interview with Daniel Cormier:

“Hunter [Campbell], Dana White, you see me fight and know my style.

“How about Conor McGregor or Paddy Pimblett? Let me put on a show,” said the #14 ranked lightweight contender.

Could Conor McGregor vs Maurico Ruffy Happen At UFC White House?

There is still a lot of talk around Conor McGregor and his rumoured return, with UFC White House speculation aplenty regarding the Irishman and his comeback to the cage.

First it looked like McGregor would return against bitter rival Michael Chandler, but that has since been shut down. The same goes for a Jorge Masvidal fight, which Dana White also insists won’t be happening.

However, McGregor vs Mauricio Ruffy is a fight that may well actually come to fruition. The Brazilian is in-form right now and a genuine contender in the lightweight division, making him a dangerous fight for ‘Notorious’.

McGregor vs Ruffy was previously mentioned by UFC commentator Jon Anik as a fight that he wanted to see, so it could well headline UFC White House on June 14 in Washington DC.

If McGregor does return at the White House, there is no doubt that he would be the main event. Regardless of who else is on the card and even who McGregor faces, he remains the biggest MMA star on the planet and will headline the event regardless of who else competes on it.

There was also talk of McGregor vs Justin Gaethje for the UFC Lightweight Title at UFC White House, with Ali Abdelaziz hinting that the fight could happen. However, this seems unlikely given McGregor current weight and the fact Ilia Topuria is set to return this summer too.

However, a fight with Ruffy is one that makes far more sense. If the impressive Brazilian striker is happy to make the move up to 170-pounds to face McGregor, then it could well headline UFC White House this summer.
