Leeds United will meet Italian giants AC Milan in a pre-season friendly in Dublin.
Daniel Farke’s side will prepare for their return to the Premier League campaign with a clash against the Serie A side on Saturday, August 9 at the Aviva Stadium.
It will be Leeds’ final friendly before the start of the new season, a week later.
Leeds’ trip to Dublin will be their first in nine years after taking on Shelbourne and Shamrock Rovers.
It is also the first time in 25 years since Leeds went up against AC Milan. The two sides went to battle in their UEFA Champions League group stage during the 2000/01 season.
Ireland favourites Ian Harte and Gary Kelly were in the starting XI when Leeds drew 1-1 at the San Siro, following their 1-0 victory at Elland Road.
Leeds legend Kelly, who also earned 52 caps for the Republic of Ireland, believes the locals will ensure there will barely be a spare seat in the house.
Reported on Leeds’ official website, he said: “It’s going to be an exciting game. It’s certainly a great test for this Leeds side before their Premier League campaign kicks off.
“I have great memories of the last time we played Milan, captaining the side against them in the Champions League.
“Obviously as a proud Irishman I am delighted this fixture is coming to Dublin, which I know the locals will welcome, packing out the Aviva Stadium and creating a great atmosphere.”
That excitement was echoed by the club’s managing director Robbie Evans, who added: “We are delighted to head to Dublin to play a prestigious opponent in a world-class venue.
“We have a fantastic following across Ireland, with many supporters regularly making the commute to Elland Road.
“AC Milan as an opponent will not only be wonderful for our supporters but will be an excellent final preparation for re-entry into the challenge of Premier League football.”
General sale for tickets will be available on May, 29 at 10am. Prices are €35 for adults and €20 for Under-16s.
Farke will no doubt be busy this summer as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for survival.
According to reports in Austria, Sturm Graz midfielder Otar Kiteishvili is set to leave the club. Leeds and Burnley have both been linked, while Sunderland may be after a Jobe Bellingham replacement.
Newcastle’s Callum Wilson may also be a target as he seeks first-team football. Injuries and Alexander Isak’s scintillating form has limited him to just two league starts and 16 substitute appearances.
Liverpool stopper Caoimhin Kelleher is also on the radar. He is seeking first-team football and Farke is looking for an upgrade on Illian Meslier.
