Jordan Morris lit up the Sigerson Cup quarter-final with a moment of outstanding brilliance, firing a spectacular two-pointer that momentarily dragged TU Dublin back into contention. But his heroics ultimately weren’t enough as Queen’s University Belfast edged a gripping contest 3-18 to 2-16.
From the opening exchanges, Morris was TU Dublin’s most potent attacking threat. His movement, work rate and accuracy repeatedly stretched the Queen’s defence, and it was clear early on that much of TU Dublin’s attacking hope rested on his shoulders.
However, Meath inter-county star Morris, who played last year with a partially torn ACL, was finding pockets of space. Queen’s were ruthlessly efficient at the other end, striking two early goals inside the opening 15 minutes to seize control of the scoreboard.
Despite that setback, Morris kept TU Dublin ticking. He contributed several well-taken points in the first half, showing composure under pressure and an ability to convert chances when others struggled to find fluency.
Alongside Dan McCartan, who top scored with 1-8, he ensured TU Dublin remained in touch at the interval, even as Queen’s carried a narrow but valuable lead into the break.
The match’s defining passage came midway through the second half and belonged entirely to Morris.

With TU Dublin searching for a spark, he collected possession well beyond the conventional scoring range, glanced at the posts and unleashed a magnificent strike that soared cleanly between them for a two-pointer, which you can see below.

That gave TU Dublin a lift and he and his team-mates surged forward and Queen’s were suddenly on the back foot as the gap was slashed and belief flooded back into the TU Dublin ranks.
That score changed the tempo of the game, lifted the intensity and underlined Morris’s confidence and technical excellence on the biggest stage.
It was the type of score that defines knockout football and will be replayed long after the result fades from memory.
TU Dublin fall short in Sigerson Cup comeback
In the aftermath of Morris’s intervention, TU Dublin pushed hard for a decisive swing. McCartan’s relentless accuracy kept the pressure on, while Morris continued to demand the ball and drive attacks.
However, Queen’s showed their composure, responding with crucial scores through Ronan Cassidy and managing the game smartly in the closing stages.
As the final whistle sounded, TU Dublin’s Sigerson Cup journey came to an end, but Morris can be pleased with his performance as he scored six points, producing a moment of pure class along the way.
