Conor McGregor has taken to social media to praise the unmatched mentality of Irish footballing legend Roy Keane.
The UFC star branded Keane’s mentality as ‘legendary’ in a recent social media post.
MMA superstar Conor McGregor has taken to social media with high praise for fellow Irish sporting icon Roy Keane.
McGregor has praised Keane’s mentality, which saw him go on to become one of the greatest players in Manchester United history and one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
The Irish midfielder was a controversial character during his playing days, and remains divisive now as a pundit. Just like McGregor, Keane isn’t afraid of letting his feelings be heard.
McGregor ramped up training for his upcoming UFC White House clash on June 14, which is yet to be officially confirmed. However, the Irishman is expecting to return to the octagon for the first time in almost five years this summer on the South Lawn.

Although the former two-division simultaneous UFC champion is back in the gym and is fully focused on returning to the cage this summer, he remains fairly active on social media.
The 37-year-old is regularly on social media, particularly X (formerly Twitter), posting videos and writing tweets on a wide variety of topics.
One of his latest tweets is directed at former Ireland football captain Keane, where the MMA star praised his ‘legendary mentality’ after watching an iconic interview clip from the former Manchester United captain.
The video clip in question is of Keane being told of Sir Alex Ferguson’s description of his iconic performance against Juventus during his playing days for the Red Devils.
Instead of running with the praise and taking it, Keane responded in his own unique way by saying he finds it insulting. The football hero said that playing football and giving his all on the pitch was just his job, and doesn’t require heaps of praise.

This social media video of Roy Keane is a short clip, but has evidently resonated with the former two-division simultaneous UFC king.
Conor McGregor is using Keane’s elite mentality as motivation for his own career. The 37-year-old is expected to return to the octagon for his UFC White House super-fight with Michael Chandler on June 14, and is using Keane’s ‘legendary’ words as motivation for his own comeback.
Keane’s unique level of mentality shows just how far he is willing to go to achieve greatness. Keane’s version was on the pitch, whilst McGregor’s is in the octagon.

Having spent the last four-and-a-half years away from combat, living a lavish lifestyle and not exactly living the life of a professional athlete, McGregor certainly has some work to do to get himself back in fighting shape and tip-top condition.
‘Notorious’ is trying to replicate the mentality of someone like Keane, who knows what it takes to overcome obstacles, prove people wrong and get to the very top.
It certainly won’t be easy for McGregor to get back to the top of his game now, given the life he has lived the past few years and the fact he is past his fighting prime.
That being said, using the wise words of Roy Keane and replicating his ‘legendary mentality’ will most definitely benefit McGregor going forward.
