Max Verstappen’s management team have said it’s up to Red Bull to provide further information on Christian Horner’s sacking.
The Red Bull team principal was relieved from his position on Wednesday after 20 years in the role.
Speculating is already mounting as to why Red Bull decided to sack the 51-year-old.
Many have pointed fingers towards Horner’s previous behaviour when he was accused of sexual harassment and coercive, controlling behaviour by a female employee 17 months ago.
Horner was cleared of the claims on two occasions following an internal investigation.
Red Bull had also been desperately struggling for form this season, which coincided with an apparent difficult relationship with Verstappen.
Verstappen’s management statement on Christian Horner
The Red Bull drivers’ management team told Dutch publication De Telegraaf: “We have been informed in advance by Red Bull’s management that this decision had been taken.
“It is up to Red Bull to give a further explanation as to the rationale. We continue to look at the sporting side are looking for more performance so that we can return to the top. In that respect, nothing will change.”
Verstappen, who has been linked with a move to Mercedes at the end of the season, is still under contract at Red Bull until 2028.
However, the four-time champion has only won twice this season and currently sits 68 points behind Oscar Piastri in the drivers’ championship.
Red Bull are currently fourth in the Drivers’ Championship having finished third last year.
Red Bull’s statement and Horner’s replacement
Laurent Mekies has been named as Horner’s replacement, and the Frenchman steps into the role after being team principal of sister team Racing Bulls.
It’s big shoes to fill as Horner leaves his position with eight drivers’ championships and six constructors’ championship titles under his belt.
A statement released by Red Bull read: “We would like to thank Christian Horner for his exceptional work over the last 20 years.
“With his tireless commitment, experience, expertise and innovative thinking, he has been instrumental in establishing Red Bull Racing as one of the most successful and attractive teams in Formula 1.
“Thank you for everything, Christian, and you will forever remain an important part of our team history.”
The announcement also came after a difficult British Grand Prix, where Verstappen finished in fifth place and Yuki Tsunoda languished in last.
Next up is the Belgian Grand Prix, where Verstappen is 4/1 to pull off a victory in the wake of Horner’s departure with Irish betting sites.
