Ireland midfielder Jack Taylor signs for Ipswich Town

Ireland squad member Jack Taylor has signed for Ipswich.

Ireland midfielder Jack Taylor will be playing Championship football next season after signing for Ipswich Town on a three-year deal.

The 25-year-old joins Kieran McKenna’s side for an undisclosed fee from Peterborough United where he spent an impressive three years after joining from Barnet in 2020.

Taylor was named in the most recent Republic of Ireland squad and, although he is yet to make his senior debut, is highly thought of by manager Stephen Kenny.

Kenny picked Taylor for the Ireland under-21s in 2019 and the sharp-shooter would go on to win a total of seven caps at that age level.

He was also included in Ireland squads during Kenny’s maiden Nations League campaign, and has regularly been on standby for international windows.

Taylor reacts to Ipswich switch.

“I’m over the moon to sign here”, Taylor told the official Ipswich website.

“I’ve spoken to the manager on numerous occasions and I’ve not heard a bad word about him.

!I think the style of play really suits my game and I can’t wait to get the ball rolling.”

“We’re delighted to have Jack in and he is a player who fits the culture we’re continuing to build here,” manager Kieran McKenna added.

“He is hungry and wants to improve and he will bring qualities that add to the group.”

Taylor started his career with the Chelsea academy but left to join Barnet in 2012.

In 2013, at just 15 years of age, he made his senior debut against Hatfield Town in the Herts Senior Cup and made his full professional debut in October 2016 when he featured in an EFL Trophy match against Norwich City.

By 2020, he had played more than 100 games for Barnet and his impressive performances drew attention from Peterborough United.

He quickly made himself a key player for The Posh in League One, but was open to offers when they fell narrowly short of promotion at the end of last season.
