Ireland centre-backs set for Premier League moves

Ireland centre-backs Dara O’Shea, Nathan Collins and Andrew Omobamidele could be set for summer transfers.

Dara O’Shea is undergoing a medical at Burnley ahead of a £7 million move from West Bromwich Albion, but he’s not the only Irish defender linked with a Premier League move.

The Telegraph are reporting that Andrew Omobamidele could leave Norwich City this summer as he is wanted by Crystal Palace as a potential Marc Guehi replacement.

Omobamidele missed part of last season through injury but ended up captaining the Canaries on a handful of occasions under David Wagner. AC Milan are said to be admirers of the 20-year-old, but Selhurst Park now looks a more likely destination.

The Mirror, meanwhile, are watching the future of Nathan Collins closely. Brentford have reportedly had two bids for the FAI Senior Men’s Player of the Year rejected, but Wolves remain open to selling him for £25 million.

Collins joined Wolves from Burnley last summer but he fell out of favour under manager Julien Lopetegui as the Spaniard preferred the experienced Craig Dawson at the heart of defence.

While the futures of Leixlip pair Collins and Omobamidele remain up in the air, Dubliner O’Shea looks certain to be announced as Burnley’s first signing of the summer before the week is out.

Vincent Kompany was determined to secure the services of the 24-year-old and, although West Brom boss Carlos Corberan didn’t want to lose his vice-captain, his hand was forced by the club’s financial situation.

O’Shea’s arrival could however have consequences on Luke McNally – an Irish centre-half already on Burnley’s books.

McNally excelled on loan with Coventry last season and hoped to force his way into the Burnley side in time for the Premier League season.

However, it is now reported that a second Championship loan looks the most likely outcome for the Meath man, with plenty of clubs interested.
