Katie Taylor Dismisses Retirement Talk As Irish Icon Admits She Is ‘Excited To Step Back In The Ring’

Irish boxing legend Katie Taylor has dismissed any retirement talk with major plans for next year.

The two-weight undisputed queen is 39-years-old now, but admits she is ‘excited to step back in the ring’ with her desire to fight still as strong as ever.

Katie Taylor Dismisses Retirement Talk With Major 2026 Plans

Katie Taylor is currently on the longest break of her career, but that doesn’t mean she has hung up her boxing gloves.

The two-weight undisputed world champion has revealed that her hunger and desire to compete in the boxing ring is as strong as ever, with major plans for 2026 as she eyes a ring return in the New Year.

Taylor was last in action back in July defeating Amanda Serrano in one-sided fashion in their trilogy bout, putting an end to her rivalry with the Puerto Rican multi-weight world champion.

The 39-year-old has been on an extensive break since then, with many fans feeling we may have seen the last of the great ‘KT’ inside the boxing ring.

However, that most definitely isn’t the case with Taylor shutting down any talk of retirement in a recent interview with iFLTV.

The Irish boxing icon has no fights in the works, but is planning her return to the ring in the New Year and is as hungry as ever to step back through those ropes.

Ever since her trilogy victory over Serrano, there has been talk of retirement with the Wicklow wonder travelling around the world, spending time with her husband, friends and family.

Taylor’s extensive break has led some fans to believe that she is done with boxing. Taylor was awarded ‘Champion in Recess’ status by the WBC, but has confirmed she will return to the ring in 2026.

The Irish sporting queen has quashed any retirement talk and confirms she will be as formidable as ever upon her return in the New Year.

Katie Taylor ‘Ready To Step Back In The Ring With Whoever Next Year’

Katie Taylor’s Croke Park fight remains a possibility before the Irish boxing legend officially hangs up her gloves, but seems like it might never come to fruition with the 39-year-old only having one or two fights left.

The Bray native has been enjoying a well-earned rest since her trilogy with Amanda Serrano back in July, which is the first genuine break ‘KT’ has had throughout her entire career.

Although Taylor admits she has enjoyed the downtime and relaxation, she insists the fire is burning as bright as ever as a 2026 return creeps nearer.

“This is probably the first kind of break I’ve had in my whole career,” Taylor told iFLTV.

“It’s been nice just to relax and reflect on life and my career.”

Although Taylor has seemingly enjoyed this extensive break from elite competition and hard training, her desire to compete is as strong as ever.

“I feel mentally fresh. The desire to step back into the ring and fight is there,” revealed ‘KT’.

“I’m loving life at the moment, but I’m also very excited to step back into the ring. I’m going to be coming back with more heart, more desire. This break has been badly needed.

“I’m still training, still ready to step back in the ring with whoever next year,” concluded the two-weight undisputed queen.

It remains to be seen who exactly Taylor fights upon her return in the New Year. There has been some talk of a super-fight with former UFC champion and WWE star Ronda Rousey, as well as a potential trilogy with Chantelle Cameron.

Although she has no concrete plans, Katie Taylor has dismissed any talk of retirement and is as hungry as ever to return to the boxing ring in 2026.
