Ali Abdelaziz Reveals UFC Higher-Ups Labelled Ian Machado Garry As ‘Boring’

Ian Machado Garry is too ‘boring’ to get a shot at Islam Makhachev and the UFC Welterweight Title.

That’s according to Makhachev’s manager Ali Abdelaziz, who revealed that an unnamed UFC higher-up said Garry is too ‘boring’ to headline UFC events.

Ian Machado Garry Labelled ‘Boring’ By UFC Chief

Ranked at no.3 in the current UFC welterweight rankings, Ian Machado Garry is within touching distance of landing a fight with Islam Makhachev and the UFC Welterweight Title.

The Irishman defeated former champion Belal Muhammad last time out to rise to #2 in the rankings, but dropped down the UFC welterweight rankings by one spot despite nobody in the top 15 fighting at the time.

Now ranked third behind former champion Jack Della Maddalena and Shavkat Rakhmonov, Garry is closing in on his shot at the 170-pound belt.

That being said, ‘The Future’ might be a little further away from his maiden shot at UFC gold than he thinks, according to MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz.

Abdelaziz has revealed in the aftermath of UFC 325 that someone high up in the UFC has labelled the 28-year-old as ‘boring’, putting a huge dent in his title hopes:

“I’m not going to say who, but I had to ask him if he thinks Ian Garry, coming from nine out of 10 fights by decision, is he an exciting fighter? He’s like, ‘No, he’s boring.’

“He’s not the guy people think he is. He was not good enough to be the main event in Qatar. This is my side of the story. I’m sure UFC have a different side, and we will meet up,” Abdelaziz told MMA Junkie.

There is a chance that Garry is frozen out of the welterweight crown picture all together, with even contenders ranked below him perhaps in with a shot at the belt first.

All Garry can do is keep on winning and making himself undeniable, before then being granted his wish of a shot at pound-for-pound king Makhachev and the UFC Welterweight Title.

Will Ian Garry Fight Islam Makhachev Next For UFC Welterweight Title?

Although there were rumours of a Shavkat Rakhmonov vs Ian Garry rematch next, there is still a chance that ‘The Future’ will get the call to face Islam Makhachev for the welterweight belt next.

Makhachev is expected to return in May or June after Ramadan, and looks set to face former long-reigning champion Kamaru Usman. There is also talk of a potential fight with Michael Morales, who is ranked one spot below Garry at no.4.

Garry feels he has more than earned his shot at Makhachev, but might need one more win before finally being granted his shot. If Abdelaziz’s claims about a UFC higher-up labelling the Irishman as ‘boring’, Garry will have to produce a dazzling performance in his next fight to finally earn his shot.

That being said, until official announcements are made regarding Makhachev’s next fight and who his first 170-pound belt defence will be against, there is every chance that Garry might get the call.

With his last fight coming in November last year, the Irishman will be hoping to return to the octagon before the summer. He may well bide his time and wait it out until he gets a title shot, or could well have one more fight in the interim.

Either way, ‘The Future’ is within touching distance of a shot at Makhachev. One more win makes him simply undeniable, despite the UFC higher-ups’ comments.
