Aaron McKenna Awaiting Fight News As ‘The Silencer’ Closes In On World Title Shot At Middleweight

Aaron McKenna is patiently awaiting fight news as he closes in on world honours at middleweight in 2026.

‘The Silencer’ hasn’t fought since his career-best win over Liam Smith last April, but is still knocking on the door of a world title shot.

Aaron McKenna Awaiting Fight News

After claiming a career-best win over Liam Smith back in April on the Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn undercard at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it looked like Aaron McKenna would be in for a mammoth fight next.

However, it ended up being a frustrating end to the year for ‘The Silencer’ who didn’t fight again in 2025. Despite moving to 20-0 and putting in a career-best performance over Smith in front of top British promoters and His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, McKenna is yet to hear anything about his next fight.

McKenna contemplated a super-middleweight move with a lack of opportunities at 160-pounds, but will likely remain at middleweight and only move up to 168-pounds if he’s presented with a mega-fight he simply can’t refuse.

After a frustrating period of inactivity, McKenna and his boxing brother Stevie, both signed with esteemed manager Michael Borao at the beginning of December in a bid to secure mammoth fights going forward.

Borao also manages two-weight world champion Teofimo Lopez, and is being trusted by the McKenna brothers to put them in a position to challenge for world honours in the not too distant future.

The Irishman will feel 2026 could be a breakthrough year for him, if he is able to secure big fights. He is in a strong position with all four governing bodies at middleweight, so could well be granted a title shot or at least a final eliminator with one of them in his next bout.

In the meantime, there is still nothing concrete for Aaron McKenna as he awaits fight news for his first outing of this year.

Will Aaron McKenna Get A World Title Shot Next?

Although he mightn’t get a world title shot in his next fight, Aaron McKenna is certainly in a strong position with all four recognised sanctioning bodies at middleweight.

He is one of five Irish boxers ranked in the WBC top 10 in their respective weight classes, and is also ranked in the top 10 of the WBA, WBO and IBF too.

The IBF have McKenna ranked highest at #6, with the WBA ranking ‘The Silencer’ at #8. Both the WBC and WBO have McKenna ranked at #10, meaning he is in a strong position to at least land a final eliminator with one of the belts next.

There is a chance McKenna is selected for someone’s next world title defence given the pedigree of his last victory over Liam Smith and the manner he did it in. McKenna put in a one-sided beating of ‘Beefy’, putting the whole 160-pound division on notice in the process.

The title picture at middleweight remains a mystery given the collapse of the Janibek Alikhanuly vs Erislandy Lara unification that was meant to happen late last year.

The WBC champion, Carlos Adames, is fighting Austin Williams next, meaning McKenna will have to continue to wait for his shot at world honours.

Who Will Aaron McKenna’s Next Fight Be Against?

In terms of an opponent for Aaron McKenna’s next fight, anyone ranked above him in any of the four sanctioning bodies makes sense for the 20-0 Irishman.

A fight with Britain’s Shakiel Thompson or Denzel Bentley could come to fruition, with both ranked above McKenna with the IBF and WBO respectively.

Yoenli Hernandez is ranked in the top three by the WBC, WBO and WBA, whilst ranked #14 by the IBF. If McKenna could secure a fight against him next, that would be a huge opportunity for him.

As of today, there hasn’t been many rumours about McKenna’s next fight and who exactly it will be against. Rest assured an official announcement will be coming in the coming weeks and months, with ‘The Silencer’ hoping to return to the ring in early spring.
