Tyrese Haliburton injury update: Pacers star to play in Game 6

Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton plans to play through a leg injury in Thursday’s Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

Haliburton appeared to aggravate a lower leg injury in the first quarter following an awkward fall, briefly leaving the game for treatment before returning to the floor.

Despite clearly struggling, the 25-year-old powered through, playing 34 minutes on the night as the Pacers fell to defeat and the Oklahoma City Thunder took control of the series with a 3-2 lead.

Haliburton finished with just four points – all from free throws – shooting 0-6 from the field and becoming the first All-NBA player to draw a blank from the floor in the Finals since Magic Johnson in 1989.

He had just six total drives, his fewest in a game this postseason and tied for second fewest in a playoff game across his career.

After the game, the guard told the media: “It’s the Finals. I’ve worked my whole life to be here and I want to be out there to compete, help my teammates any way I can.

“I was not great tonight by any means, but it’s not really a thought of mine to not play here. If I can walk, then I want to play.”

Haliburton has been the glue of Indiana’s incredibly successful heliocentric offense, averaging 17.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 9.1 assists a game in the playoffs this year.

He also limped off after his postgame news conference after Game 2, later revealed to be a right ankle injury and after Monday’s loss he confirmed the new issue is in the same area.

According to the top betting sites in Ireland, Oklahoma City is 1/2 to close out the series in Indiana and claim its first NBA championship since 1979.

After Indiana rallied from a double-digit first-half deficit to cut the lead to two in the fourth quarter, the Thunder prevailed with a 25-16 run to end the game and put one hand on the Larry O’Brien Trophy.

The defeat marked the first time this postseason the Pacers have dropped back-to-back games and Indiana look to be running out of steam approaching the final hurdle.

The Thunder were the best team in the regular season by a country mile and their class is starting to seep through as the Finals near completion.
