Orla Prendergast reaches career high in the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings

Irish cricketer Orla Prendergast has continued her rise up the latest ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings as a reward for her excellent form.

The in-form Ireland all-rounder who made her debut in 2019 put in some noteworthy performances in her last outings for her country. That’s best demonstrated with her sublime form for Ireland during their recent 2-1 series triumph over Pakistan, with the 23-year-old doing a good job with bat and ball as she deservedly claimed the Player of the Series award.

The right-hander scored 144 runs across the three matches, picking up an average of 72 across the three games. She also showed she can cause damage with the ball, as she chipped in with four valuable wickets.

Orla Prendergast and team-mates rising up the rankings

Her good form has seen Prendergast obtain a new career-high rating and climb eight spots to 19th overall on the list for T20I batters, while she also moved up three places to improve to sixth on the rankings for T20I all-rounders.

Her Ireland team-mates have also headed up the rankings. Laura Delany has moved up five spots to 50th, and Rebecca Stokell has climbed up five spots to 77th. The pair also made some ground on the rankings for T20I batters.

Other Irish players seeing an improvement in their ranking are Ava Canning, who is now 48th in the bowlers’ list, while Jane Maguire has moved to 50th from last week’s 54th.

Change at the top of the T20I bowlers rankings

There was also a new name at the top of the rankings for T20I bowlers, with Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland claiming the top spot in the category.

Sutherland hasn’t featured in the shortest format since she took a four-wicket haul against New Zealand in March, but her rating of 736 remains unchanged as a group of bowlers near the top of the rankings lost points across the last week.

What’s next for Ireland?

From an Irish perspective, it shows that the women’s national side are progressing nicely with the number of improvements in the players’ individual rankings.

Off the back of their aforementioned series win, Ireland now play in a series of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers which start next Wednesday, the 20th August.

First up, they take on Germany, before Ireland play the Netherlands and Italy too. The two countries play each other twice, with Ireland’s fixtures taking place between the 20th and 27th August.
