Emma Raducanu has made light of her relationship with Carlos Alcaraz as internet rumours continue to swirl.
The duo recently announced they will be playing partners in the mixed doubles at the US Open, which starts in August.
It only further ignited rumours of a potential romance between the two tennis stars.
Raducanu was spotted watching Alcaraz in action at the Queens Club Championships earlier this month during his semi-final win over Roberto Bautista Agut.
The British US Open winner took the rumours in good spirit when he was asked by a BBC Sport journalist.
Laughing when she was posed the question whether she was aware of the speculation, the 22-year-old responded: “I’m glad the internet is having fun and we’re providing some entertainment for everyone.
“We go back a long way, and I think we both started to get to know each other a lot more in 2021.
“When I had that little run at Wimbledon, I think he won in five sets in the first round or something.
“Then all through the US Open, he had a big breakout win against Stef in the third round, but I was always trying to join him in the next round because he was playing the day before me.
“Ever since then, we’ve stayed in touch. He’s done so well obviously since and has continued winning, and it’s been amazing to see. We were speaking and friends before anyone won anything.
“It is nice and I think, for all of us, we really value those connections that we had from when we were young.” She added.
“Because when you become a bit more known or a bit more successful, you just find yourself reverting back to people you knew from a young age and because that’s a real genuine connection, because it becomes very busy and you have a lot more friends – but the ones that you’ve known for a long time mean a lot more to you.”
Raducanu, who is 33/1 to triumph at Wimbledon with Irish betting sites, reached the quarter-finals of the HSBC Championship earlier this month. She was knocked out by China’s Qinwen Zheng.
The French Open champion is in red-hot form and is favourite to win his sixth major title.
Although there’s barely anything to separate him and rival Jannik Sinner in the betting markets.
The Spaniard beat Sinner in the Italian Open final in May, before following that up with wins at the French Open and the HSBC Championships.
He’s won the two previous Wimbledon tournaments and is around 7/5 to make it a hat-trick of consecutive victories.
