Carlos Alcaraz parties in Ibiza following his dramatic French Open title

Carlos Alcaraz wasted little time celebrating his French Open success by jetting off to Ibiza.

The Spaniard was involved in one of the greatest finals of all time with a five hour and 29 minute breathtaking duel against Jannik Sinner.

Battling from two sets down and saving three match points, Alcaraz showed grit, determination and spirit to retain his French Open title.

It also ignited a new rivalry in tennis with Sinner that looks set to take the sport by storm in the coming years. The duo are by far the two best players in the world at this moment in time.

Attention will soon turn to Wimbledon, but Alcaraz earned every right to enjoy winning his fifth major title.

The 22-year-old headed to the party island of Ibiza with friends and family, where he has been able to disconnect from tennis.

A social media post saw him partying inside the Roto Club Ibiza with Queen’s iconic We Are The Champions anthem echoing from the speakers.

Another post to his Instagram showed Alcaraz pictured with former Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner is a change of the guard

It felt poignant that while Rafael Nadal’s footprint was unveiled at Roland Garros, Alcaraz was part of an unforgettable final.

Nadal, the king of clay, was part of a trio that dominated tennis for two decades alongside Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

However, it will take something special for another player to emerge through the ranks in the coming years. No one can rule Djokovic out, but the 38-year-old isn’t the same force to be reckoned with anymore.

With Wimbledon getting underway at the end of June, both Alcaraz and Sinner are dominating the betting market.

Speaking of the rivalry, Sinner said: “I think every rivalry is different.

“Back in the days, they played different tennis. Now it’s very physical, but you cannot compare.

“I was lucky enough to play against Novak and Rafa. Beating these guys, it takes a lot.

“I have the same feeling with Carlos and some other players. It’s very special. I’m happy to be part of this.”

Alcaraz a doubt for Queen’s

It’s unclear whether Alcaraz will cut short his break and feature at Queen’s to commence the grass court season.

The ATP500 gets underway on June 16, but understandably, Alcaraz may need time to recover following the French Open.

A decision is likely to be made at the end of the week, says his coach, although the plan is for him to feature.

Juan Carlos Ferrero said: “The plan is to play him, but we’ll make a final decision in a few days.

“After these days off, on Thursday or Friday, we’ll do a test to see how he’s feeling physically and mentally.”
