Ross Adair has pride in Irish jersey ahead of West Indies series

Ross Adair is looking to make an instant impact as he returns to the Irish side after being sidelined for months with injury.

Ross Adair is the older brother of the talented Mark Adair, who has no issue grabbing wickets and runs for Ireland.

The Northern Knights player has 10 caps for his country and scored a century off just 58 balls last year against South Africa. He also had a stint playing rugby, making one appearance for Ulster where he scored a try against the Dragons in 2015.

He then made 40 appearances for Jersey Reds, but a number of major surgeries ended his rugby playing days.

Now his focus is fully on playing for Ireland, and after missing Ireland’s tour against Zimbabwe, he has been biding his time with the Irish Wolves cricket team. The Irish Wolves are virtually a reserve team for the Irish team and are comprised of fringe players hoping to make the step up to the national side.

Ross Adair – ‘Every time I pull on the shirt, it gives me immense pride’

The Holywood native spoke with Cricket Ireland about his pride in playing for his nation, his own individual game and the challenge of playing a talented side such as the West Indies:

“Yeah, it’s been a while now since the South Africa series and I’m very much looking forward to playing again. Preparations have been good, with lots of drills and playing as much club cricket as I can, but nothing beats getting out there and playing for Ireland – every time I pull on the shirt, it gives me immense pride.

“Scoring that hundred against South Africa has given me real confidence and self-belief that I’m capable of doing it at this level, where I maybe lacked in that area of my mental game before. It’s important that I don’t change how I go about my business and believe 100% in the way I play.

“The West Indies are a different challenge – they’ve always been an incredible team to watch, especially in T20 cricket – but no matter who we are playing, our general approach and mindset doesn’t change. Of course, we look closely at our opponents, but just as important is that we concentrate on our own game plans.”

Ireland will also be able to call upon Mark Adair, who is back in the squad after recovering from injury.
