Willie Le Roux Handed Ban Following Aerial Challenge Against Ireland

Willie le Roux was lucky to escaped being sent off after challenging Tiernan O’Halloran in the air.

Despite only receiving a yellow card for his aerial challenge on Ireland’s Tiernan O’Halloran yesterday, Citing Commissioner, James Absaloms, deemed the infringement worthy of a one week ban.

Absaloms’ decision will anger Irish fans, who were demanding consistency from the match official following the decision of Mathieu Raynal to send off CJ Stander for a similar challenge during the first test.

Indeed, after reviewing le Roux’s challenge on a number of occasions, Glen Jackson only deemed the incident worthy of a yellow card.

Jackson’s decision not to send off le Roux even drew a comment from former international referee, Jonathan Kaplan, who hinted at the fact that the challenge warranted more than a mere sin binning.

Indeed, Irish fans were particularly angered by the lack of consistency, criticising Jackson’s performance.
